Vitamins?

There is no reason you can't swallow a regular vitamin right now. Find something with 100% of most vitamins and minerals (there are close to 30) and go for it.

I take these, they are formulated for surgery, only ONE per day and bonus they taste good. Plus it's not a bad price  $35 for 3 month supply.

I also take the calcium. It works out nice. One multi with breakfast, 2 calcium at lunch and 2 calcium at dinner.

What Jessica said! I bought the Opurity as well.

Although, my doctor's office gave us a chart with different brands and how many of each you need to take dependent on the brand. They did say that if you are using Flintstones to make sure you get Flintstones COMPLETE. The complete has extra vitamins in it that the regular Flintstones don't have that you need.

Even the complete version is still incomplete. It's not a good option for us.

Flintstones "complete" isn't really complete, though.  It's missing some stuff, like selenium, which the ASMBS says we need.

If you go to Celebrate Bariatric Supplements web site you can order a free sample pack. You just pay for shipping ($3). I really liked the orange flavored multivitamin. You'll get free samples of other flavor supplements, protein and protein bars. This way you can try it before purchasing.

I started with the Bariatric Advantage chewables and HATED them.  I switched to the Celebrate chewables in Mandarin Orange and have no issues.  They taste like orange baby aspirin to me.

And I agree 100% with GwenMo on not taking Flintstone vitamins.   I created a spreadsheet on several brands of vitamins and they are sorely lacking.  Spend some time comparison shopping and you'll see that some nuts are quite frankly incompetent.  You have to be your own best health care advocate.

I am not telling anyone else to do this, but this is what I do/did and so far so good.

In the beginning, I took a regular multivitamin, calcium, iron and B-12.  Of course I was careful to keep the iron and the calcium apart from each other by at least a few hours, preferably four hours.  After a year, I had fifteen vials of blood drawn and was tested for every possible deficiency, and only the iron was low.  Iron has been an issue for me and the female side of my family for as far back as I remember, it was not any worse nor better than before the VSG.  I continue to take iron and calcium, and occasionally I will take the b-12.  I don't take any other vitamin.  I eat better now then I ever did before the VSG and my labs are always perfect (every year) except for the iron, which is always on the low side.  We absorb all of our vitamins, with the possible exception of the b-12.  Just stay on top of your labs.  I have also heard of people needing more vitamins than I need, everyone is quite unique in this area.  That is why pat advice is not a great idea when it comes to vitamins.  I would really talk to your doctor and make sure that he/she is making the decision based on your unique situation and more specifically, your lab work.  Don't except anything else.
