psych eval
Mine was basically, "what's your history with mental health, do you know that this surgery isn't a magic bullet, okay, you're good to go." The psychiatrist even said, "I don't know why this is required."
But some people have different experiences.

I was asked about my childhood, eating history, I was given different stressful scenarios and asked whether or not I would eat and if not, how would I cope?... Basically just an hour of him asking a bunch of questions, that seem as though they have nothing to do with you and the surgery, but apparently they do...
My bariatric clinic has psych's in office and it is a more intense process to get a "pass". they really probed into my childhood, why I am fat, why I eat. they (the psych and her student) even flagged me as an abuse victim b/c I cried when probed about my deceased father (I was not abused, I just still tear up when I talk about him). Anywho - those tears earned me a "suggest ongoing counseling" label. I was referred out to a different lady - who after meeting with 2x decided I wasn't crazy or abused, just a stressed out working mom of 2 toddlers. I had to take an MMPI exam that screens for mental diseases, passed it, and then the 2nd psych told me the 1st lady was way out of line and the 2nd wrote a letter approving me for surgery.
My psych eval process was the most annoying part of my pre-op stuff.

Ditto to civilmamma (but we had same psych). Very much a deep probe to get the 'pass' before I could continue with WLS . I also had to do MMPI and when reading the results back to me she said "there is nothing in here that will allow me to hold you back, but given my analysis we still may recommend a couple month wait". Ugh, as someone used to working with counselors and mental health, that psych was over the top! Most meetings are routine - more of a CYA and to make sure you are not seeing imaginary people.
Were the pshch's initials L.J.? I was pissed after all that happened. She wasn't even the doc I was supposed to see, but the one I was scheduled with was out sick that day. I'm glad it is over, but man, that was the worst part of dealing with the bariatric clinic there.
My husband is taking his MMPI today..he is seeing the new male psych...fresh out of school. Oh boy!

Yep. I tried to chalk up my frustration (anger) as stress due to the surgery/life changes and played the role of a polite and compliant patient (no need to look crazy - lol). Looking back, she was horrible! I loved my Dr. and have heard great things about yours. As for the rest of PN it felt like I was another #, a cookie cutter approach vs help with my issues or questions. One of my nuts was talking starvation mode and my PT meeting was not much better than the psych in terms of value to my success. At least we had great Dr's and great results.
For BCBSTX, I had to meet with a pyschologist and take 3 different tests. Two were short but the third was a 600 question true false test. A lot of questions that repeated the same topic.
They were like, I think about suicide often, I think about hurting other people or hurting myself, I will have to be lucky to lose weight with this surgery. Or, I think people are out to get me. I answered false to that one even though most people are.
