lettuce
I was allowed lettuce after 2 weeks but my plan allows any food after 2 weeks starting with softer stuff
but most people find lettuce easy to eat , it is a matter of having room after eating your protein
salad is a good source of vitamins and minerals and fiber and helps prevent the dreaded constipation
Basically there are no foods that you can not eat. There are recommendations from your surgeon and they each have their own reasons for restricting certain foods. For me the biggest question comes down to have you eaten all your protein today and/or will you be able to get it all in? If the answer is no then you should not be be eating anything other than protein, if the answer is yes then go ahead. It all comes down to choices, maximizing your weight loss and what you can tolerate. My surgeons office suggested that if you really feel that you need to eat a few veggies then eat two bites of protein and then one bite of a healthy vegetable and then repeat. Just remember that you may get hungry a lot more quickly if you are filling up on vegetables. Dense protein tend to stay with you longer so most people tend to eat less and less often.
I was basically able to eat what I wanted per my physician at 6 weeks. However, I was still working on getting my protein and fluids in at that time. About 10 weeks out I tried lettuce, and my stomach was not happy with that (or cabbage). I am now more than 6 months out. I can have a bit of lettuce, but still can't do cabbage. Just listen to your stomach! :)
My plan didn't allow it until 6 months out.

As you've seen physician instructions vary, but I was told something like 6 months. I did ask why though.
The explanation came down to the potential for leafy things to bind up and the resulting problems while still healing.
However, I know another patient who had surgery a month after me, with a different doctor, that had no such restriction.
Personally, I stuck to what my physician said. Let's be real, it's not like I got fat on salads to begin with so abstaining wasn't a real stretch.
I still don't really eat the leafy vegetables. Remember, not all lettuce has nutritional value. So for best results, don't use the limited stomach space filling up on quantities of non-protein foods.
