I am in Southern California and paid 19k.   That is for 1 year of follow up care as well. I have probably spent at least that in supervised diet plans spanning the last 22 years😁.  I am 49.  I had a real sense of urgency as I approached 50.  Best of luck with your decision.  I am 2 1/2 hours from Mexico and my hubby said no way as well.

In my opinion, it is important to have your surgeon be close to your hometown should an issue arise.  Also, there have been so many people that have had good experiences in Mexico.  It is a great option for many, I do not want to offend anyone who made that choice.

I am in the same boat.  The money is more stressful than the thought of surgery.

I live here in Fort Worth TX. My sleeve only cost $5800 at the Kim Bariatric Institute. Dr. Kim has done almost 7000 of these surgeries. The hospital that he uses does some creative financing. If you have a hiatal hernia, which most of us that are over weight do, they will bill your insurance for the hernia and then you pay Dr. Kim for the sleeve. I also used Care Credit to pay for my part with Dr. Kim. It is low interest.

The procedure is well worth it. Health is the most important.

Dr Kim just did my surgery also with the same program. Even without that plan, it is about $13k.

people go into $40,000 debt for a car that will wear out in a few years.  Your health is surely worth $20,000.

Nicki - do yourself a favor, I was just in the DS forum and there was a question about Mexico and I think you would be interested in reading the responses.

I too felt guilty for spending the money. I am not the type who can spend thousands of dollars at will without worrying about bills. In other words, I am a person of limited means. However, the blessing to have surgery has been something that never leaves my mind and it keeps me vigilant every single day. I do not take the opportunity for granted because it cost a lot for me and my family. I honor the blessing by doing my best every single day to keep the weight off, no matter what stresses or problems occur in my life. I think you will feel blessed that you had this chance to do something for yourself and better your health. There should be no guilt if you do everything you can to make it work for you and improve your life and health.
