I stumbled... but didn't fall

Figuratively & literally.

Last week, I had to go to Pennsylvania, Nashville and Key West.

Pennsylvania (Mon / Tue) was uneventful -- I stayed full on track.

Nashville --

    Tue evening:

I ran 3 miles outside around the city -- this is amazing for me, I usually am terrified to run outside as it is much more difficult than running inside.

I went to an outstanding steak house (Kanye Prime) and ate not super great.  Some candied bacon, steak, cream of corn, brussel sprouts, a couple of bits of dessert, and 1-2 oz of red wine

Key West --

    Wed:

I allowed my friends / co-workers to talk me out of working out on Wednesday

I had some of their appetizers -- fried conch, southwest egg roll

I had some wine -- 2 glasses (eek - escalation)

    Thur:

I spent a good hour + in the gym before my meetings started

       I ate a healthy breakfast & lunch!

I had a rum drink at dinner and a couple of bites of unhealthy appetizers

I left the bar early, despite my friends pushing, to ensure I could get enough sleep and wake up to work out

    Fri:

I did a 5 mile run around key west at sunrise -- it was beautiful -- I stumbled big time and almost wiped out, but caught myself and kept going :)

I stayed on track during the end of the conference and my multiple flights home

I made a few bad choices, but I think I pulled myself back on track before things went too far.  I did gain 2 lbs when I came home.  I'm hoping it is mostly water and will be gone tomorrow or Monday.

I travel a lot for work, and will be on the road for the next 4 months each week Mon - Thur.  I made some meatballs that I am going to freeze and bring with me.  I'm not going to let things backslide.

Thanks for listening :)  Let me know if you've had similar issues and how you have overcome them!

A big part of this journey is living in the real world.  Sounds like you did a good job!

"A big part of this journey is living in the real world."

I agree with this completely.  It's sort of like "no battle plan survives first contact with the enemy."

Doing that much traveling would be it super tough.  I admire your dedication to exercise and how well you did under the cir****tances.

I also think you did well.  You saw your pit falls recognized them and stopped what could have been worse.  I would chalk this up as a win and a learning experience  Good job.

I find I get pulled off track when I go to parties or travel.  But so far, I've been able to get right back on track when I'm back in my comfortable environment.  I think you did pretty well for being away all week.  In the long run, it won't matter as long as it doesn't keep you from getting back on track.

best wishes,

Carol

Thanks everyone :)  I was feeling pretty bad about my choices.  When I reflected, I did realized that I righted myself quicker than I could have.

I need to be able to find the balance of being able to have fun with friends while keeping my behavior in line with my goals.  I think sometimes it might mean having a glass of wine or missing a workout, but it doesn't mean that I need to eat appetizers just because others have ordered them.  I'm sure this will change over time, but I just need to keep aware of everything.
