Body fat % recalculated
The first time I had hydrostatic (underwater) weighing done was exactly 5 months ago. I was at 164.2 with 35.2% body fat, still in the "obese/overfat" range. I hit goal weight at the end of December and have been maintaining within a 3 lb. window since then.
At today's test I was 138.3 with 26.4% body fat. Lean body mass decreased by 4.67 lbs. since last time. This means that I was losing about 1 lb. of muscle for every 5 lb. of fat from Oct.-Dec.
I am SOOOO close to my goal of 25% body fat, which would put me in the "normal" range. Basically, if I can lose 3.3 lbs. of FAT (not muscle!) I can hit that target. OR I can build muscle, which is harder to do.
I'm looking into starting with Farrell's in April; a friend got me a really good deal on their 10-week program and I'm convinced it will be the ticket to getting me to my body fat goal. It's not about the number on the scale anymore, it's that body fat % number.
I encourage anyone who has access to this resource to get it done (our local college does it in their Exercise Physiology lab).
Excellent! That's the way to dial it in...
Recipe for losing fat, not muscle... resistance exercise and get your protein in.
Do cardio too, but make sure you do resistance - it will help preserve the muscle.
