Hi everyone!

I just finished day 1 of my pre-op diet.  I am at Disney which makes this super tough.  All of the restaurants are accommodating , but it is hard to ask for the right stuff.

my diet is 800 calories with min 60 protein and max 100 carbs.  Doable but hard.  Thanksgiving will be tough.

i hope everyone else is doing well!

Wow... talk about dedication!  That's awesome!  Just remember that this is temporary.  All of the foods that you are foregoing now will still be around, maybe even in better versions than you have available now (believe it or not), sooner than you think.  Keep up the great work!

Oooh, I'm going to be in the same boat as you!

I have my surgery in February, but in January, I'm going to be on vacation in FLA with my family and friends and one week is on the beach, while the second week is in the theme parks. I will be on Optifast during the WHOLE vacation. And we have Character Breakfasts booked at Disney and Animal Kingdom. I'm wondering how I'm going to handle all that food around and still stick to only Optifast?!

Can you tell me how are the restaurants accommodating? I gather from your post that you are still eating regular food but following a caloric restriction along with ensuring you get enough protein and limited carbs. Have you said something to the servers or when ordering your food that helps them accommodate you? I have heard of people carrying cards with them to present to servers at restaurants and things, but I'm not sure how to go about this. Any tips and input you have are most welcome!

I hope you enjoy Disney! I love the place! Cannot wait to go! (But God, I hope I can fit on a ride or two without being totally embarrassed...)

No matter where you go if you are on a medically supervised diet, tell them!  I'm up front with the waitress when she comes to take drink orders. "I'm on a medically supervised diet in prep for surgery." I just wanted to let you know because...(A) I won't be ordering food with the others but have my shake that I have to drink. OR (B) "will need to order in accordance with my diet".

If you are going to a pre-planned event (wedding, disney breakfast etc.) contact someone ahead of time to see if they will accommodate what you can eat or will allow you to bring your shake in.  If they won't eat before hand. While at the meal have something with you that will keep your hands busy.  My preference is babies lol.  But be creative so you aren't just sitting there watching everyone else eat.  Travel and cameras go hand in hand...be the photographer!

My surgeons office actually gives us a business card with their info on one side and on the other it says "This patient is on a medically supervised diet, please accommodate their food choices and allow them to order from the seniors menu if needed." I haven't had to 'flash' the card yet but I will if anyone ever gets pushy with me lol.

Have fun!

Dang, if you can do a diet at DisneyWorld, you can do a diet anywhere! :-)

Sigh... WDW... I miss it. Haven't been in years. Maybe next time I go I won't panic about getting on Space Mountain whether I'll fit in the seat or not. Right?

I work for WDW!  Lots of places are very flexible, which is wonderful for us wls patients.  If you are at a counter service place, you can always order something without fries/side/bun, and they will charge you accordingly.  Great for ordering a chicken sandwich and just getting/paying for the chicken breast!  If you have any questions, feel free to message me!
