I want to thank (most) of you for your advice and heartfelt messages. It truly means a lot. As for @Luvbskts - He had multiple and extremely expensive surgeries and hospital stays, just the very bottom of the barrel when it comes to all the medical bills, all out of his control. He could not lead an even semi normal life with the amount of debt he had. It was ALL medical. Instead of judging his situation, if you don't have anything helpful to say that isnt completely condescending and holier-than-thou, just click the back button and move along. If you don't have a respectful way to respond to posts, keep it to yourself.. You don't know his situation at all. Lets see you at nearly 850,000$ in debt from hospital bills and doctors offices and long stays in rehab, extremely expensive medication, WITH NO INSURANCE, and being way too ill to get a new job, and see how YOU feel. He has always been an excellent person and works hard for what he has. Your comments and ignorance about what another human being is going through (majorly struggling) completely and utterly disgust me. He didn't ring up hundreds of thousands of dollars on credit cards and out of control spending, not in the slightest. He didnt even own a credit card! he had hardly ANY debt at all before he got so ill. He wa**** with a HUGE mountain to climb. Now he is slowly getting better, however all of his doctors are strongly pushing weight loss surgery as it will help many of his problems and enhance his life dramatically. I was thinking of taking him to Mexico for the surgery since it is the least expensive. I may pay for some to help (as much as I can), and I think a $3,000 loan (who knows where yet, may not happen) would allow us to get him the surgery and get him on a better road to health. We have Never been dependent on the government. We are getting no money from the government. Show some compassion. I think a 3000$ loan is not all that outrageous as it will cure many of his problems. I'm still very disgusted with your comments and feel sorry for you.

Some surgeons in Mexico will work with you. I've heard that mine has done it for a few people - 1/2 up front, the rest in monthly payments.

Where was I being rude?  Once again, I am just someone that said something you didn't want to hear.  I was speaking the truth.  Doesn't it make more sense to save up for the surgery instead of going into debt?  As he's saving; he can work-out, get adjusted to his new lifestyle, etc.

Use a little common sense...if you were a bank, credit union, etc., would you take the risk of loaning someone money for a medical procedure when they didn't pay for their last medical bill?  It doesn't matter if it was his fault or not, he still had the service and didn't pay for it.  He is a bad risk!

I don't know you or your boyfriend so clearly I have no bad feelings towards you.  I also have no reason to talk down to you.  I'm just trying to show you that there are other ways to do things without borrowing money.

What about borrowing from family?  Or having a family member cosign or borrow the money for you?  Not the ideal situation but maybe a solution.

He could also save up and self pay.  It would take a while but he probably doesn't have much debt because of the bankruptcy.

If his current insurance doe snot cover the surgery and her really needs it - why not wait for the insurance exchange and try to get insurance that will cover that?  Sure the insurance may be more than he is paying now,  but still it should be less than the loan..

I bet the payments for the insurance would be less that paying back a loan.. just saying...

He's better off saving up and going to Mexico.  He's not going to get decent loan terms anywhere this soon after bankruptcy.  Once a little more time has passed, he'll have a better chance, and if he saves in the meantime he'll need to borrow less.

Just a thought and it is up to you but what is your credit like? Can you get a personal loan? If you do not or can't do that then I understand.
