Help! Second guessing myself
Maybe go back and compare the risks/benefits for both. Do you have any comorbidties? Are you diabetic? There are some definite benefits to the RNY if you are diabetic that I don't think apply to the sleeve surgery. As my surgeon said "RNY is the gold standard." There is much more data and research from following patients long term for RNY than the sleeve. But, the sleeve was considered a two step process towards a full RNY. And docs found that the sleeve was successful for many patients.
IMHO, It is a truly personal choice that only you can answer. Call your insurance company. See what they say. If you switch, the only draw back is that you might lose your surgery date.
Good luck!
You need to make sure that you are making the right decision. This is a huge life changing decision. Call the insurance company and Dr's office and let us know what they say. I know you mentioned to me the other day that you were kind of on the fence. I don't want to push you either way, but I think it's important you feel confident that you made the right decision going into this surgery. Even if they change your date, have the right surgery for you is the most important thing and you will still be my "surgery sister"!! Good Luck and keep us updated!!

Thanks Jenny!
I called the doctor's office to see what needs to be done. I am waiting for a call back from the insurance coordinator. I really hope i don't have to change the date. It would be a mess with work and such. I have my pre-op appt with the surgeon Wednesday so I will also discuss everything with him.
Wish me luck!
I changed my mind after I had already been approved for RNY and had a date scheduled. I had to wait awhile longer while the new approval went through and ended up having surgery a month later than I had originally planned, but I got the surgery I wanted and the one that I thought I'd be most happy with for life. If you have decided that you'd rather have the sleeve, then stand up for what you want because this is for the rest of your life.
