fIVE YEARS POST OP AND GAINING HELP ANYONE CAN,T SEEM TO GET A GRIP
I HAVE LOST OVER 120 LBS AND NOW I AM GAINING AT AN ALARMING RATE CAN,T SEEM TO STOP IT. DON,T EAT THAT MUCH MORE NOTHING I CAN PUT MY FINGER ON. ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE HAD THIS HAPPEN? ADVICE IS WELCOME. i AM VERY BUSY AND HAVE A RUSHED LIFE STYLE I AM OVER 60 AND I DO NOT GET EXERCISE I SHOULD. I AM SCARED TO GAIN BACK BUT I HAVE ALREADY GAINED 30 LBS.
Can you take a step back and go back into WL mode? I know posting to MFP has helped me tremendously. I never think I'm eating (and drinking) as many calories as I am until I start to diary it. That way too I can keep an eye on protein, carbs, etc.
You can do this....the most important thing is that you can identify now that you need to get control of this and start using your tool again.
Take care!!
I agree with going to My Fitness Pal and beginning to log every bite you put into your mouth. Until you understand exactly what/how much/when you are eating, it will be very difficult to pinpoint the cause of your gain. And measure, don't guess.
Start there, and then figure out a plan! If you want to post your food log, I know there are people on this site who will look at what you are eating and make suggestions that can help.
Yes, I can almost definitely help you, but you might not like the medicine.
1) Make an appointment with your doctor and have your hormone levels checked.
2) In the meanwhile, start weighing and measuring your food again (for the first time?) and journaling your calories, protein and carbs.
3) If you are grazing, STOP. Go back to eating three protein based meals a day and two veggie snacks.
4) Go back to eating 1000 calories a day, preferably less, but it gets much harder the further out we are to go back to 800. I know, I am four years out. Keep your carbs under 40 and your protein at about 90 grams. Don't eyeball anything, you are not as good at it as you think.
5) Make sure you are getting enough water in.
6) Most importantly, as of now, this becomes the most important part of your life. Everything else comes after this. Prioritizing weight loss is the only way I know to make it really happen.
If you need to PM for more support, I am here. Good luck, I realize how scary this is for you but I am very hopeful that it can be reversed if you commit to doing what I asked you to do.
Theres no time like the present to get control of this, so it's great that you're here! As suggested, check with your doc if this really is something out of the blue as that suggests some medical change (thyroid, edema or other unusual water retention...) On the other hand, the nasties can easily creep back into our lives - as you suggest, getting too busy to exercise or eat right. From what I have seen in the past ten years of going to our support group (my wife is eight years post-op), 30 lb is very recoverable by back-to-basics dieting (whatever has worked for you in the past, or just simple cutting out the junk that has crept back in and tracking things again.) 50 lb up seems to be a lot harder to correct, and many are looking at revisions to reverse things at that point, so you certainly getting scared at the right time.
Good luck in getting this turned around,
