Couldn't be more excited! Come on, I'm READY! Dr. Vierra is my surgeon, having surgery at CHOMP in Monterey, best hospital anywhere! Getting all my household cleaned/organized and "stuff" set up for recovery time. Have someone set up to pick me up from hospital and spend 1st night home w/me. Getting TO the hospital by 6am that day is the toughest part of it, LOL. Any suggestions as to things I might not think of for my first few weeks home, or even for my 2-3 day hospital stay? Thanks everyone!

Hi...congrats!!  So exciting!  For the hospital, I made sure to pack pj's that I was comfortable walking the halls in, chapstick, tooth brush, tooth paste, face wash.  I did pack a few books and did read a bit, but not too much.  Also my phone charger.

It'll go fast, really!

Congrats! I've decided to self pay and I also have the same surgery date as you. My sister had her vsg surgery  2 weeks ago and she packed a buch of stuff that wasn't even needed. Make sure you have slippers/ socks with rubber grip. It's helpful for walking the halls. Good luck and best wishes on you weight loss journey.

Thanks! Self-pay, OUCH!

Believe it or not, my wonderful local hospital GIVES you the socks with the grip before you go into surgery. But I'll pack my favorite grip bottomed slippers anyway.

Good luck on YOUR surgery too, let's keep in touch and compare notes, OK?? I''ll be back online for sure the day I get home from the hospital to make my first entry. Smile...

My surgery date was changed to 26 Jul (a stomach cancer patient bumped us this am, no problem) and went well. I went in Fri am (6am!) and was in my room, up and walking (slowly!) by 6pm. Slight fever from time to time, but to be expected. Time passed quickly with meds, nurse checks of my vitals, sleeping, and once I really woke up (sat am), getting up and eating what I was given (bullion and jello and some sort of sugar free icee thing-my fav since it went down easiest.  It was hard to "eat"...even water you FEEL in your tiny new "stomach" as it makes its' way down....sort of like tiny pebbles. Hurts a little and aches. To be expected. TINY sips, all day long and it gets better. (This goes away after about 3 days though.)Then WALKING, up and down hallways, which really DOES make you feel better, the more you do, the better you feel. Day goes by fast and I never even used my Kindle until Sun am. leave PJ's at home....hospitals don't let you get into them at all. Bring: ROBE to cover hospital gown though for walks. Also, I brought one of those circular neck pillows, which was the BEST thing I brought!! Great nurses, hardly saw my doc at all. Once before surgery in pre-op, and next time I remember seeing him was Sat am at breakfast, then on Sun they released me. He just cuts and runs.,..LOL. No, he's a great surgeon (so I'm told) and that's all I ask. Not bad bedside manner, just reserved and all business. Was great to feel able to go home!

I'm so happy for you. I didn't have my surgery because my significant other (hubby) isn't supportive. He's to afraid of what "could" happen. I'm glad your surgery went well. I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray that I can have surgery before the end of the year. Wishing and praying for you to have a speedy recovery.

So sorry to hear  your spouse isn't supportive. What is it he's afraid of possibly happening? Sometime go wrong in surgery? Then have him sit with your surgeon for info perhaps? If it's about whether you'd stay with him after the surgery or if he's heavy and thinks he'll feel lonely after you lose the weight, maybe a therapist for couples could help, one did in my marriage (years ago). I sure hope you don't let that stop you; YOU are the one who this is for and not him (unless he wants to join you of course, smile). I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!
