Did your hair get curly after surgery?
Ok Ladies,
I am at a loss. Before surgery my hair was longer and a little wavy- but certainly not curly. Post op I lost some hair. I had super thick hair, so even with the loss it wasn't a big deal. I got it cut short due to the loss (just easier to take) and as soon as I did that the less weight unfurled curls. Then it got REALLY curly. So I chalked it up to the hair loss lightening up the hair enough to let the curl unfurl. But now? I am 18 months post op and have a hard time believing that the hair loss thing is still causing it.
No joke- when I let it air dry with a little gel in it, it totally looks like I have a perm using fairly small rollers. Tight curls.
I just don't get it. How in the world did I go from mostly straight hair to all these curls? It is so bad that on a humid day I don't even try anymore to contain the curls. I just let it air dry with frizz control gel. Even on the non-humid days when I blow it out, the curls will eventually override the straightening I do.
WTH? j Anyone else out there with this?

Hi
I too lost some hair post surgery. I did not have a ton before so I was really missing it. New hair is coming back but it is frizzy and incredibly sensitive to humidity. Needless to say, not looking very good until last week - I got the keratin straightening treatment (lasts about three months) and it is very straight and shiny. Highly recommend it. Not sure why the texture changes with the new hair???

Oh yea, forgot to mention the gray-- lots of it compared to preop. Ok, so it seems you had the same thing happen so it does seem like it could be a wls thing. Just nobody in the support group has it going on. I am brunette too- maybe it is a brunettte thing!

Was your hair always long and thick? Have you kept it short since the first time you cut it? If so it is the wait thing. That said my oldest DD had stick straight hair gowning up. She hasn't had WLS, just two kids now 7&11 and her hair has to be straighten now. Don't know why other than an influx of hormones. With your supper fast weight lose you had an influx of hormones released from the fat cells.
Just thinking out loud
It's actually not that unusual. Now my hair was DEAD STRAIGHT pre-op. So it's not curly now. But it's not dead straight either. It actually has a bit of a wave. Which I'll take.
But my friends have turned curly. They were wavy to start.
My theory is that all these vitamins I take and all the healthy eating has improved the condition of my hair and that's why it's not so limp and lifeless any more.

This is interesting. My hair is already short and curly...makes me wonder what will happen!
That is too bad about the increase in grays. I'm 31 and have quite a bit of gray for my age. I was already wondering if the regrowth I will eventually have will all be gray, and that answers my question. I can't use hair dye either...I am allergic to it and it gives me major rashes.
