Interesting support meeting this evening

You sound like you found a great alternative!

I think I might try and find a group closer to the area I'm in for school and see if they'll accept an outsider. :)

Thanks for your response. I wish you much luck as well, although it sounds like you're doing pretty well yourself.

I've only been to support group twice because it's kind of far from me, and I hate driving in rush hour.  When people ask me about my success or stalls or whatever, I'm just honest about what works for me.  Obviously what works for me or what I'm willing to do isn't going to be the same as other people, and that's completely fine.  I think it's a good idea to talk about what plan you follow and why you think you're successful, and hopefully other people will take something from that.  I spoke to a pre-op at the first group I went to and he was obsessed with not being able to drink soda, so I told him that I thought giving up soda to save your life seemed a really small trade off.  It didn't seem to have any affect on him, but people will do what they want to do.

You're exactly right. People will do what they want to do. I guess I'm just upset by the example these leaders are demonstrating.

My parents and I made the decision to self-pay for the surgery, so I have that added fire under me as well as my own competitive desire to get healthy. It just makes me sad to hear people talk in a way that is not helping them.

I think from reading your comment and the others, is that we're not having a dialogue, but instead it's a q an a with these leaders and they shouldn't be conducting that.

Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate your perspective and it has definitely made me think.
