Any good advice for the mood swings, irritability.........my husband is now saying that I bully him to much.  I have noticed that I am very fast to go off on him but I just cannot help it.  The other day we were in the car just listening to music and I suddenly started laughing then crying.  My doctor prescribed Trazodone, which put me in a totally sedated state and made me very very drowsy. I am not taking that anymore.  He just prescribed Celexa, put I think for now, I will let my system rest.

You might want to check out Magnesium deficiency. It affects many of our neurological systems. I started taking 400 units/day and it's helped my moodiness/irritability/short temper. My wife (RNY) started taking it too and it cured her Restless Leg Syndrome.

Anyhow, just a thought, hope it helps.

We've been reading up on these symptoms and what to do about them because we have two of us menopausal gals in one house.  Gets a little out of hand some times :) There's a book "You Are What You Eat" that we have gotten some direction on different foods to try out. I want to avoid western methods if I can, now that I realize how much of what we eat can affect our bodies and minds and I'm interested to see if any of the suggestions pan out. Maybe we'll have to go the western route some time, it's not too horribly bad for either of us right now so we have time to try some other things. Good luck. Hang in there.

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.

Ditto what datachick said about magnesium! I was so irritable I couldn't stand to be around myself! I take calcium citrate with magnesium citrate and vitamin D3 and I also use magnesium oil and soak in Epsom's Salt (magnesium). My NUT said that with a reduced stomach surface area and less acid (especially if you take an antacid) we are prone to a magnesium deficiency - getting it via supplement is not always efficient so that is why she has me doing the oil and Epsom's. You could give it a try - it's an inexpensive supplement so you're not out much if it doesn't do the trick.

Hi

I tried celexa and it made me gain a lot of weight, that is one of the strongest side effects, I don't know if it will happen to you, but thought I would let you know.
