Nice opinion piece on CNN about Christie's Lap-Band
Very good point... I shouldn't have said "community" although I do see it turn in on itself sometimes, but you're right... it's usually really a select few... I was just shocked by the response.

re insurance - he's a state employee....as a former nj state employee, I can tell you that not only do you barely have to pay for anything (including the insurance itself), they are very very lenient. but if he did self pay, he could very well afford it.
i'm curious as to who the surgeon was...and how many here have actually had that same one..just curios.
otherwise, I do agree with why did he go with the band?...perhaps less messing with original body parts?? that was my initial thought when choosing....luckily, my surgeon was already not wanting to do that last year.
I do wish him the best of luck.

Thanks for sharing! I really liked this article. I made this decision primarily for my daughter. I wanted to model healthy eating habits, confidence in my own skin, etc etc etc. I don't want her to have the struggles I've had my entire life. I see no issue with that. Of course, I had this surgery for me, but being healthy and actually being there with my family is more important than anything else.
I agree with Sleevegirl! My my we are in a very judgmental community! I think weight loss is a personal thing and can hardly believe that Governor Christie doesn't have access to the best health care advisors! It baffles me how much criticism and almost discriminatory remarks have been loudly expressed in the media! Why is there such tolerance for derogatory comments about fat people? If it was a question of being gay, America would be up in arms over this level of negativity!
I loved the article, thanks for sharing!
Regardless of agreeing with his politics or not, Gov. Christie isn't a stupid man. I am sure he had access to the best doctors and was given all the information about all weight loss surgery options. He chose the lap band because he felt that it was right for him. Some people have had major complications with it, and there are those who have not. Isn't it wonderful that we live in a country that allowed all of us to chose what we felt was best for us? Gov Christie lives in the same country and also had the right to chose what was best for him. I wish him and ANYONE who has chosen to take on the battle of their own obesity the very possible best (even if I don't want him to be President. LOL).
Haters gonna hate.
Thank you for posting this article. It definitely encompassed my thoughts on his surgery.
