That's amazing - good for you! I have to really work to get my minimal 2 litres in.

I know you said you tried Miralax and other stool softeners and they didn't help, but did you try a single dose or several over a few days? Stool softeners work slowly by pulling water into your large intestine. Since you drink plenty of water I bet a dose every day would gently get things moving and keep them going until you were able to eat more volume and fibre on a regular basis.

I'm finding that even with a high fibre intake (I eat 20-30+ grams a day) 2 stool softener capsules a day make my bathroom visits a lot more comfortable.

Back up a mo. What exactly are you eating?

Miralax etc is for if you have hard, dry stool. If it's just that you only poop every 2-3 days, but it isn't an issue of hard, dry stool (which is what Miralax, enemas etc help) you may be trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Pre-surgery I went 2-3 times a day. Now, 7 months out, with lots of fibre AND a stool softener I go once a day and still skip the occasional day. At your stage it was every 3-4 days. (normal 2 months after surgery)

If your food volume is low there isn't much residue. If that's the problem stick with something easy like Quest bars or high fibre cereal.

My stools are so dry they have become impacted.  That's why I needed an enema.  What am I eating.  Protein and Produce mostly just like everyone else.

I just read your food journal for the past week and understand your situation a bit better. I would be severely constipated as well. (Part of the reason I don't eat low carb)

So - will your budget stretch to a daily Quest bar? If so that's an easy way to really boost your fibre. My other ways are All Bran in my yogurt and high fibre cold cereal. My favourites are Hi Lo cereal and Fibre One.

Since you keep your water intake nice and high you could try Benefibre. It doesn't cause gas the way Metamucil does and doesn't thicken whatever beverage you mix it into. I'd recommend spreading it through your day to get the most benefit.

Fibre supplements only work if your fluid intake is high, but that isn't an issue for you. If you don't find the right mix really soon please see your doctor.

Yeap the last couple of days I have eaten quest bars.  I will not be able to stay low carb anymore.  I just hope I still lose the weight cause as it was it was coming off so slow.  I can't be sick all the time from being bound up.  I tried hemp protein this morning.  (It's has fiber)  Doesn't taste that great but may help me boost the fiber.

I don't eat low carb, am WAY older than you and am still losing. The main advantages of low carb are that it reduces physical hunger and reduces desire to eat more carbs. If you already know that you can plan for it - the biggest is to avoid white flour anything and "snack" food like crackers, which for some strange reason slide right through.

Watch your water, get in your protein and fibre, don't graze, get off your bum every day and learn to stop eating at the first sign you're getting full. You WILL lose weight - I promise.

I'm definitely more hungry since I added fiber/carbs back.  :-(  The only reason I had the crackers though was cause I was nauseated not as a regular thing.    I do have a problem with late night time too wanting more food.  Daytime is not bad.   I have trouble with insomnia  therefore I tend to get hungry while not sleeping.  ;-(

I only mentioned crackers because I have to be careful of them - not because you had a few. I try to not judge others lest people turn around and start nitpicking my choices.

I have a history of late night munching too, so have made a few rules for myself to help. I plan for an evening snack and make sure it's something satisfying, like 1/2 cup of high fibre cereal with milk or an apple cut into thin slices and a baby bel.

Once I've had my snack food is over, but I allow myself all the herb tea or decaf I like.

Kelly-ann, It's hard cause I have insomnia and don't usually fall asleep til 3 am.  So I keep getting hungry 1 snack doesn't last.    I'll eat dinner at 5 or 6pm.  Than I'll eat about 9pm.  Than around midnight, than right before 3am.  I sure which I could cure the insomnia than it would solve both problems.

As far as crackers.  There is a cracker that is out there that is 100% whole grains.  They are called Akmac.   They are really filling.   I haven't eaten them since surgery cause of the seeds.  But now that I can have seeds I will probably get them for when I'm nauseated instead of eating the saltines.  And your right about the saltines that just slide on down and make you more hungry later.

I think this other posted is right about Magnesium being a laxative.  I don't know how much to take cause I heard you have to have certain portion of calcium and magnesium or they deplete each other.  I have a liquid cal-mag I've been taking since surgery.  I'm not sure if it's safe to increase magnesium without increasing the calcium.  I'm going to call my nutritionist and ask.    I also just bought hemp protien/fiber, the husk stuff and the peppermint tea  the others were talking about.  I'm getting desperate.
