Really? A size 8 at 200 pounds?? WARNING: Clothing size rant
Ok, all of the replies have me laughing too :) As a 5' 3.5" petite, small framed woman, there was NO WAY in hell I was gonna fit into a size 8 at 200 lbs. It's absurd. It's ridiculous. I am now 120 lbs and wear a size 4 or 6 depending on the cut. Preop at 261 lbs I was in a tight 24, so I'm guessing I was probably about an 18-20 at 200 lbs (don't remember exactly).
Either this woman mistook the 8 for an 18 or she is in serious denial. She feels she reached her goal in 7 WEEKS and only lost 30 lbs? N0 surgeon would operate on her if she only needed to lose 30 lbs...
Just shaking my head...

I do wish I had asked her where she was shopping ... But I would never want to embarrass her. I would have a hard time asking it in a way that didn't sound a little bit snarky.
Toy all have gotten me thinking, though, about what the hell happened. We're they stretchy yoga pants? A size 18? Mislabeled? Or was it all a lie or exaggeration?
She is big in the boobie department, but her hips were pretty if too. I dunno... It's a bariatric mystery for the ages.
Last week, I fit into all pairs of the size 8's I tried on. :0)
I am 5'9 and was 160 pounds when I pulled off that one.
I do have a couple of size 6's that fit well and a couple of 10's. all depends on te designer.
I do measure myself by clothing size, as crazy as that is. I can remember when a 28 inch waist got you in a size 12 jeans (in 1979). Now a 28 inch waist gets you in a 6 or an 8.
I started at 290 pounds and size 28 jeans. I have a big fat ass and big thighs, though my boobs are big too. I'm down to 230 and wear a 44DD bra, jeans are size 22.
I tend to measure myself by brand-- Lee jeans always fit me best, so I tend to use that as my benchmark. Their sizes actually haven't changed much in 20+ yrs, so I feel alright about using them as a standard.
But the rational part of my brain tells me it isn't about the size, it is about being healthy and happy and content with the way I look. It is the emotional, human, vain side that cares about what size I can get into.
I had to chuckle at that one. I have the opposite problem. I'm about 5'10" and 180 and people can't believe I'm wearing a size 12 (size 10 on my tight pant days). My aunt bought me a new pair of pants a few weeks ago that she saw on sale and thought I'd love - they were seriously a size 5. Funny thing is I can't see myself getting any smaller in sizes at this point. I don't think my bone structure is made for single digits. I've had to just let it go - if everyone else thinks I'm a size 5, does it really matter what the tag says?
Yup, sizes are all over the map. I'm a size XS (really? extra small??) or sometimes even XXS in QVC clothes, by measurement. I often wonder what on earth someone who's smaller than me does, but maybe they don't shop on QVC. I browsed Nordstrom's half-year sale recently, and I'm a medium there.
I read once here on OH, there used to be standardization in clothing sizes, started by the U.S. Army in WWII when they had to get a lot of uniforms for a lot of people in a hurry, both men and women. In the 80's that started falling apart, and now mfrs do whatever they want. To me it's about convenience - I don't want to be wasting my time from brand to brand, or even item to item, trying to find what fits, before I can even decide if I like it or not.
