I have been doing really good since I have been home. But today....everything changed.

First I woke up and went to the bathroom to empty my drain and realized that I dripped from my stomach all the way over. I got light headed when I got up too. I got back to bed and found out that my drain is pulling out.

Called the doc and everyone was very unconcerned. Then at just after 5pm...pop! The drain came right out. Can't get a hold of anyone after hours. So now what? Anyone hav this happen that give me some advice?

Thanks.

My drain fell out while I was still in the hospital after surgery.  Once it's out, they don't put it back in, and there's nothing that has to be done with the spot where it comes out.  Just keep an eye on it and call your doc if you see any problems.

I had the surgery on the 4th and I am scheduled to have the drain removed on the 13th as it was. It is a bit scarey getting out of bed and having the entire drain in your hand.

When they took mine out at hospital they just put a steri strip/ bandage on it and that was all. I think you should be fine to do that. They took mine out the day after surgery.

How much was the drain putting out per day before it came out? You should be fine. Many surgeons don't even use drains. Mine was in for 3 days before they pulled it. If you had less than 100cc per day I'm sure it's no big deal. Jus****ch out for back pain, fever, sweating, rapid heart rate, etc. Hang in there. If you develop issues that really cause you concern, call the hospital and ask them to page the physician on call for your doc's group.

Thanks everyone. I was pulling out just under 25cc about every 3-4 hours. But then then tube started moving and pulling out. I had no pain but bad nausea yesterday. Today I have no pain, no nausea. I am working on my intake right now to make sure I keep those numbers up ....while sipping.

Now I wait to hear from the doc office and hopefully I can go back to work tomorrow.
