Pre-sleeve I drank tea all day. Now that I can't have tea I've been searching for a beverage that I will love post-sleeve as much as I loved tea before. So far I've tried every flavor of Crystal Light known to man and I can tolerate most of them but don't love any of them. What is your beverage of choice these days?

Why can't you have tea?  I had herbal tea the day I got home and have both herbal and black tea regularly now.

I also drink coffee daily.....no issues.  Not sure who said you couldn't have tea...unless there is some other non sleeve reason for it.

My beverage of choice is water, very diluted Hawaiian punch/crystal light (sugar free), coffee, tea, or the random 0 cal Lifewater or Powerade Zero. No soda.  No alcohol.

I am back to drinking tea and coffee.  Early in process I was drinking herbal teas and decaf coffee, but at about 2 months post op I was able to drink my normal teas and coffee. I still can not drink soda though, anything carbonated really doesn't go down well, and it is too sweet.

Per my NUT we're not supposed to have tea for two reasons:
1. Caffeine is a dehydrant
2. Tannins in coffee/tea block absorption of iron

I can do decaf coffee/tea but only 8-16oz per day so I'm trying to find something to use for the other 40-50 oz.

Hmm........I've heard that before but hasn't been as issue (at least for me).  My iron levels are perfect and I literally have had 2-3 cups of coffee per day since about 8 weeks out.  I balance out any potential "dehydration" by drinking a lot more water to go along the rest of the day.

I do a Centrum Multivit w/ iron daily though and I do understand that everyone has a differing ability to absorb certain minerals/nutrients.

I wish you well.....I would go nuts without my tea/coffee.

1. Caffeine is a VERY, VERY mild dehydrant, and even that small effect goes away if you consume caffeine daily. And compared to, say, coffee, tea doesn't have much caffeine anyway. (I drink about a GALLON of iced black tea each and evry day, and have since my WLS 8.5 years ago.)

2. The tannins in tea do inhibit the absorption of iron--a little bit. With a VSG, it's not like you have any surgically-induced reason to have more trouble absorbing iron post-op than you did pre-op. Are you taking any supplemental iron? If so, you should be FINE drinking tea.

Herbal teas are my favorite drink, and they don't have caffeine or tannins, my NUT said they were perfectly fine to drink post op.

Mio Orange Tangerine is my FAVORITE. I like most of the Mio flavors though. My other top choices are propel and powerade zero.

I drink absurd amounts of coffee - its not a dehydrant, but it gets that rep bc it makes you pee quicker than other liquids, but not more...But i always drink 90+ oz of other fluids on top of my coffee.
