IBS

Not at all (crazy.)

I really wonder if some hormonal aspect didn't come into play with removing most of my stomach.. I was on anti-anx meds prior to surgery and felt like a lightswitch had been flicked right after- and I do mean right after! As soon as I was past the initial couple days I felt brighter, happier and a whole lot less stressed than anytime I could recall prior. I no longer take anything, save for the occasional half pill if I'm having a particularly rough PMS day. It's odd, but it's mostly persisted! My IBS disappeared too.

Either way, good luck with this all- I know it can be majorly frustrating and life-altering when things are flaring up. I come from a long fam history of bowel issues- I have the most mild in my family.. sister and dad both have had multiple operations for their bowel disease. So, with luck mine hopefully will never progress any further.

Wow that sounds like good news!!!
I'm so anixious I'm worried after surgery will make me worse.  I think of everything.  Like the fact that I use food to self medicate anixiety.  I'm thinking well what if I'm anixious that I can't even eat.  The other thing I use is water even more than food.  It's almost like a water mental disorder.  Ppl have problems not drinking enough water.  I am the opposite.  I worry that after surgery I may not be able to handle only drinking 3 to 4oz at a time.   Quite often when I have underlying aniexty that makes me feel quite parched.  I literally will drink maybe 30- 60 oz of water at one shot to clam myself down.  Ppl think I'm exaggerating there's no way I could fit 60 oz of water.  Oh I can!  lol   I especially get parched right before I go to bed too.  You can imagine how that makes my nights sleep after having to drink all tha****er to calm myself.
And I gotto learn to sip not glup.  Oh boy.  See I worry myself sick thinking about all this stuff than as a result the IBS starts and that's how I started to wonder if IBS can get worse with a smaller stomach since you don't have the large stomach to break down and digest the food.  Yeah so i am crazy!    I hope that I end up like you after surgery.  If not I'm going to need to go to WAA just like AAA only for waterholics.  lol   Okay so I know there's not such a thing....  Now you agree I'm crazy??

Take this coming from a super anxious ball of nerves...I think you are just grasping at straws for things to worry about.

I spend so much time worrying about the what-if's that I make myself sick. You can do that (which it's how we are wired so it's hard NOT to) but you can also try to think about the other stuff. Like not shopping in plus sized stores, fitting into seats, crossing your legs, etc.

I KNOW it's easier said than done but chances are (like real statistical odds here) you are going to do fabulously!!

Yeap you are right I worry about everything.  Everything...

About fitting in seats.  I can't wait to fit on an airplane better!  Our family is in Dominican Republic and in Mexico.  It's so hard to travel at this size on an airplane especially.

I had stress induced IBS (as well as sugar on an empty stomach issues) and it's gotten so much better since my surgery. I DO believe that the main reason is that I don't eat the sugar anymore so maybe that won't help you too much.

I think the anxiety issues are actually worse now (but I got off Paxil and have a lot of life stressors going on right now). I can manage it with medication for the most part.

I agree that not eating sugar can help aniexty.
I'm terrible when it comes to sugar.  I when blood sugar moves around on highs and lows it can induce anixiety. (even if your not diabetic blood sugar levels can still go up and down)  I do notice the days I have a lot of sugar my aniexty is worse.

I was first diagnosed with IBS when I was nine years old (back then it was called a nervous stomach). I was a pretty intense, driven kid and I still have those tendencies as an adult. I stress about everything. If there is nothing to stress out about, I swear I look for things to worry about.

I won't say that my IBS is completely gone after the surgery, but it does seem better. The smaller amount of food intake seems to help. The lack of starches also helps, I think. There are days when I'm in the bathroom 4-6 times and then there are stretches of time when I don't go for days (not uncomfortable, just no need to go). I can't find a real rhyme or reason at this point.

My mom has IBS and so do all of my siblings, although they developed it in college. I do take a probiotic (a good, expensive one) regularly. It helps. The best medicine I ever took for it was actually prescribed to my mom and it's old school. Bella donna drops (5 in one ounce of water was the dosage) were a godsend. I would take it an hour or so before big events (SAT test, giving a speech, graduation, etc). A lot of doctors won't prescribe it anymore since it is a poison, but it works and if you can convince your doc to give you a scrip, I highly recommend it.

Was never diagnosed with it but usually every meal ran through me, now I deal with constipation more then anything unless I drink my protein shakes, they seem to make me regular since milk triggers me. It is so nice not running to the washroom a couple if times a day, now maybe every second day unless heavy day on protein shakes.

I have Crohn's Disease and the surgery actually has helped my issues. Though stool softeners and laxatives are now part of my regime. I think the lower volume of food and eating better quality food has helped tremendously. I also am gluten free and that has helped tons too. It was a bit of a guessing game as to how best to regulate when to take a stool softener and when to take a laxative. But the rule for me now is 3 stool softeners per day and a laxative at night if I go more than 3 days without going. That seems to work best for me.

Stress plays a big part for me as well. I have found that exercise is relieving my stress and helps the issues too.

Also, I never hardly eat any type of processed fast food. The preservatives and added junk irritate my insides. Now that I feel so much better, I am so less tempted to try eating it again. Just keep healthy food with me at all times in my cute lunch bag, so I never have to think about where to find food on the go.
