Okay I'm confused.  My preop diet isn't til October  (since surgery is tenative for Nov 5th) so I have time to figure this out.  But I noticed on the preop diet they have a lot of carbs. Not like a ton but seems too much for preop diet.    Aren't we limited to a certain number of carbs.  If so how many?  I don't wanna have too many carbs cause I have a very large BMI so I want to make sure the preop diet works.
I know calories limits is about 900 to 1100.
But what is grams of fat limit?
And grams of Carb limit?
At least 70 grams protein but How much protein is too much?  100 grams???
I'm going to be using no sugar Almond milk instead of real milks.  Grams of fat a tad higher 3.5 instead of just 1.5 in 1% milk I want to make sure that's okay.

I'm post op.. And this was a ? I had for the nut.. She told me not to go over 90 carbs for pre liquid diet... Which is a lot.. I didn't go over 60 carbs
I made sure there was less than 5grams of sugar and fat in the shakes
She told me to aim for 75-100 gram of protein... I used bottle water fr my shakes

Wow yeah 90 grams sounds high for liver shrinking.
I heard 30 grams but with even the milk in the protein shakes I think I'd go over so I'll try to keep it under 60 grams like you did.
Yeah I see I'm allowed applesauce and cream of wheat in my liquid diet.  I was surprized cause of the carbs.

Honestly, it takes months to shirnk a liver, just follow your docs plan and you will be fine.

I don't think you can do too much protein.  I also started working the "preop" diet months before, because I knew my eating habits were so messed up that I doubted I could "fix" them in 2 weeks.  Dang glad I did... it was a slow process for me, but utterly worthwhile.

I on the pre op diet now. I was told no more than 800 calories and high protein. So I am doing the Premier shakes from Costco 2x a day and protein  & vege for dinner. Lots of crystal light.

Yeah my doc's diet is only 5 days.  But I'm worried not enough for me with a high BMI so I'm gonna do 2 weeks since most preop diets are 2 weeks.

Surgeons' programs vary all over the map, as does their intent for their programs. Some use a pre-op diet in an attempt to shrink or otherwise improve the condition of the liver before surgery, in which case they generally go with some form of low carb diet. Others use it as a means of preparing their patients for post-op life, or to test their compliance.

My doc doesn't do any pre-op diets, even for his highest BMI patients. Your doc likewise has a fair bit of DS experience (and the sleeves that go with it,)  is presumably comfortable working with very high BMI patients; rejoice in his skills. The low carb diets are still a controversial and trendy thing, and not all docs embrace them as essential - they work well for some and not so well for others as is the case with any of the fad diets.

Between now and surgery time, do what you can to lose what weight you can - any techniques or diets with which you have had any success in the past is a good start. Another approach it to work toward finding a long term maintenance plan that you can live with - cut out or find substitutes for the things you know you shouldn't be having, or just simply as a means of lowering your overall calorie count - I often replaced the pasta in spaghetti with thin strips of peppers and onions.
