I have had the lapband for 5 years now and am scheduled for a revision to sleeve on August 6th.  I have heard on the revision forum several people talk about acid reflux.  I had horrible reflux before I had the band and after the band it stop instantly!!  I am scared that it will return.  What is your experience?

I had it before and have it after.  I take a daily prevacid and it controls it - but if I forget it for a few days... back and bad.

Love my sleeve though!

Hi there, I just had my band removed and revised to the sleeve back in April.  The only time I had reflux before whas when my band was too tight.  With my sleeve, I did have a lot of acid, so I double up on prescription prilosec every day.

Others on the board say it's due to the stomach producing enough acid for a regular sized stomach, so it over produces.  Makes sense.  I don't have the reflux, just a lot of gurgling that turns in to true hunger rumblings if I don't take care of it.

When I had my sleeve done my doctor repaired a hiatal hernia which he said will help me with reflux. The first week was terrible but after the repair started to heal I don't take anything anymore. Granted, I'm not eating the same but he said it should totally go away. Maybe ask your doctor to check if you have a hiatal hernia (I guess it's pretty common), and if so, maybe he can do the repair during surgery.
Good luck.
