Still no regrets

pineview01,
Please do not shy away from the revision just because of my experience! There are those that had no issues at all!!!! Just know that complications are possible. The main thing is that even with everything I am still glad I did it!!!!!! My surgeon did it all in one surgery. My lap band was attached to my liver and my stomach and therefore was at a high risk for leaks. But, my dr. explained this all before hand. I knew what could happen. It all still seamed worth it! Just be sure to do your research and know that it is a serious surgery. All in all, I still have no regrets! Complications can be fixed and I will still have my sleeve to hrlp me lose the weight. I am also so glad that lap band is GONE!!!! Feel free to ask me anything and good luck to you!!!

I popped a leak 2 days after my revision right before discharge with my revision.

Hang in there, it sucks, NO DOUBT, but let me tell ya, I'd do it ALL over again to live the life I have 3 years out now.

Was your band taken out and sleeve done in same surgery?  I had my band out in 2007 but surgeon told me that I could have scar tissue from band - so I am considered a revision.  Just wondering since I now have read of these two leaks from revisions.

Yes, it was done in one procedure. There was no way to tell how severely the band had damaged my stomach, not one of the diagnostics showed the extent of the damage.

The risk for a leak with a revision is quadrupled vs. a virgin sleeve. I was my surgeon's first and only leak ever.

It happens, there's more leaks around here from virgin sleeves as well. So, it's a risk, I knew my chances were high. I survived and I'm thriving 3 years later.

I think that is why the doc wants to wait two months between.  He said there was a much higher risk of leaks in the area where the band was.  It wants it to heal but, if I really whined he would most likely give in.   After reading all this I think waiting would be best.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

My surgeon really didn't have much of an option to not sleeve me. The damage was so significant, he had to remove so much tissue, he had to do something. Unfortunately, I popped a leak and it was repaired immediately, by him going in and sewing my stomach back from 2 separate pieces.

Your surgeon will know what's best.
