So how's your cholesterol?
Mine was borderline before VSG, with my triglycerides being pretty high. Now, everything is well within normal range. I know a high protein diet can drive up cholesterol because a lot of high protein foods can contain fats (particular meat = animal fats). But because I practically live on chicken breast which is low fat, I think that's part of why I've been ok. I also take fish oil every day and I exercise a lot now. I hope yours drops when you get further along! Good luck.

Yeah, I am not sure it's diet related though. I don't eat nearly as much meat as I used to. I mostly do protein shakes for my protein.
I stopped my fish oil after surgery, so maybe that's it.
I hope it drops too. It doesn't sound like it will without some other changes though. Oh well, it's doable. I was just curious about other's experience too. I am glad ot hear yours is okay though.
Thanks so much responding to my question.
Funny you should ask!
Mine was in the 256-ish range pre-op, and I was on a statin for a few years, until I decided to discontinue it a couple years before surgery. A couple of months ago I went in for my annual checkup, fully expecting my cholesterol to be within normal, if not on the low side, given how much I've lost. To my surprise, it's pegged right back at that 256-ish range. (Can't remember what the HLD/LDL breakdown is.) Back on a statin. She's extremely pleased about everything else - blood pressure, blood glucose, yadda yadda. So cholesterol is my only health issue these days.

So weird. I am in nursing school and they told us that dietary changes have very little effect on cholesterol in reality. I guess this must prove that to be true. He He
So, I dug out my lab report and compared it to what I could find on line. They set off my alarm bells for nothing really. 100 or less is ideal, mine was 115. 110-130 is considered near ideal by the American heart association. So bite me. I am not going to worry that it's not perfect. Come one people. He He
I am going to start back on fish oil supplements anyway since I think they are good for me but I think my lab report is whack. All I saw was that the report said it was high but it did not give me a reference range to know how high. That's why I decided to research how high it was. It's "near perfect". That's good enough for me. Stupid lab.
Well, at least I learned that lots of people's labs were not effected by dietary changes and my nursing school teachers were right about that. It seems the fish oil and/or Statin's are the only real way to lower them.
Thanks so much for your input!
