I am just curious. I won't have mine in time for my date. And of course, when I sent in my application I had to include my original birth certificate. I have my id, copy of birth cert, ss card, medical card, etc. What are your thoughts??? I am going to Dr. Alamanza on Monday July 9th, returning to Vegas on Thurday the 12th.

I don't think you can travel to mexico without a passport anymore.

By law you have to have it but I have heard people say that no one ever checked because they were in the medical vans that come and go across the border all the time.I would not chance it if I were you.

U need it... Look in to expediting it faster. more $$$$ but u will have it ur current documents are useless. Other option is waiting for it to arrive and get a new vsg date

My cousin crosses the border daily. He crosses with out a passport however he travels with an original copy of his birth certificate and drivers licence.

Hes never had an issue however he crosses by car not a plane.

You won't be able to get on the plane. You can't travel to Mexico or Canada without a valid passport, even by car now.  You can check the status of your passport application online to see if it will make it.

Did you pay to have it expedited?  We got ours in 2 weeks.

I am flying into San Diego. Then the medical van takes all of us (at least 5) across the border - same driver, same van every day. I know legally you have to have one if you fly directly into a foreign country and to come back into the US. When I lived in San Diego I went to tj a few times (with my kids) and never worried about one. But its been awhile.

I know you can't drive into canada without a passport or a passport card.  I have had coworkers stopped and turned around at the border.  It would be better to not push your luck.  Call the surgeons office and ask them.  Ccheck the Homeland Security website.

You don't want to get to SD and not be able to go through with it.

Getting into Mexico isn't the problem it's getting home.  Do you really want to get stuck in Mexico, have to go to an embassy and get an emergency passport?

I've had to get an emergency passport before it's not a fun process!  I stupidly let the movers pack my passport and my son's passport when we were moving back from England and didn't realize it until 3 days before we were supposed to fly!

Nope, Can't do it. You have needed a passport since June 2009 and if you do attempt it, you are going to have a ***** of a time getting back across, especially when you already feel poopy. You could have paid for expediated delivery and I got mine in 10 days.
