My God, my weight loss is slow.

I'm not doing all the things I should be doing (for various reasons) but you'd think eating so few calories, I'd be losing no matter what I do. I MIGHT have lost a half a pound in the past week and a half. I'm choosing the right foods and staying between my 600-800 calorie limit and still not losing. I'm getting about half or a little better of my required fluid intake and no exercise YET. My surgeon told me only water aerobics but since I haven't had access to a pool and because we live so far out in the swamps, it has been impossible to a place where I can aerobically exercise. I did, however, purchase an 18 ft pool and will have it up in about 2 weeks or so when it arrives. I have an exercise bike and a treadmill but since I have been told "not yet", I haven't tried either one. Exercising on those will come soon. I'm just so deflated emotionally about my (what I consider) slow weight loss. My surgeon gave me the initial impression that I'd drop weight like crazy in the beginning because I had so much to lose..but that hasn't been the case. Even with the B-12 shots, I'm still not losing enough to make me happy. On the flip side, there's no way I could have lost the amount I've lost without the surgery and I'm grateful that I had it; I don't regret it for a second but I can't seem to get really happy about my loss thus far because I still have so far to go and the scale is NOT moving. I just want to be healthier and happy, that's all. Is that too much to ask?

Yes, my surgeon told me only water aerobics because of starting weight, back/hip/knee issues and walking would put too much pressure on my those areas. Only water aerobics until I lose more weight.
I keep my carbs below 20 on most days, some days I'm sure they go over a bit but definitely not more than 30 carbs per day. Protein is about 50-60 gm per day but I'm trying to get more in starting today. I bought shaved smoked deli pastrami that has 19 gm per 6 slices and some smoked provolone to go with that. I'm going to supplement with 52 gm protein drink later but that takes a ton of effort on my part because I really dislike drinking protein. *shudder* Liquids have been my main problem. I never liked drinking much before surgery and since surgery, everything I drink gives me heartburn so badly that I have trouble swallowing sometimes. It burns up into the back of my throat for HOURS after I drink something. I take 1 omeprazole daily in addition to 2 Nexium capsules all to no avail. I'm going to get it worked out though. I have faith in myself.

I hear your pain. I have been stuck at the same weight for almost 3 weeks now and I'm tired of it. I know it will come off eventually, but the waiting game can be torturous. I will have faith that we wil both pass through this time and look back on when we thought we'd never lose any more and laugh.

1 - I would ask that they change your heartburn meds, I tried the Nexium and it did not help me at all, changed my pill to something else and BAM heartburn was gone.
2 - if it was ME, I would use the treadmill, start out doing like 5 mins and see how it goes and increase the time as you feel better. I know there are several people on here who had issues and higher starting weight and worked their way up on the treadmill, hopefully they will chime in and give you some pointers on that.
3 - and I know it's not the advice some want to hear, I would get that protein up higher, and get in your fluids! Believe it or not, the more fluids in the less fluids will build up in your body and it will get your weight moving, I promise!

LOL June! Thanks for understanding. I do believe that I'll eventually lose it but I am so disheartened RIGHT NOW because I expected so much more of myself. My daughter hasn't seen me since Christmas and they're coming for a visit in 2 weeks. I had hoped to be a little further along than I am now so she would be able to tell a big difference. When you start out where I started out, 54 pounds is just a tiny drop in the bucket. I guess I'd have been happier if I could say I've lost 84 pounds instead of 54 pounds. LOL! We're never really happy though. By the time I get to a loss of 84 pounds, I'll wish I had lost 104 pounds. Maybe that's the trick? Never being satisfied until we reach goal?

I know you don't want to hear this, but the "average" weight loss is ten pounds per month. You are doing better than that. I know you have more to lose, but sometimes I notice that people who lose a lot fast, just lose the rest a lot slower. So you could just be a slow and steady loser. I think that might be better in the long run. Whenever you can get some exercise, I'm sure it will help some. But I do think you are going to be a slow and steady loser, and in my eyes, that's just as good or even better. Best of luck to you!!

Thank you CuriousKat. I guess if I could figure out my weight loss pattern and I KNEW what to expect, I'd be better off, too. I seem to sit in the same 3 pound range for DAYS UPON DAYS and then I gain a pound or two before losing any again. It's crazy and making ME crazy.
In the grand scheme of things, I'd be thrilled with consistently losing 10 pounds per month. I'm going to start charting my weight loss and see if I can come up with a pattern.

I have severe arthritis in my knee and do not recommned a treadmill. My ortho is very much against me using a treadmill - a stationary bike on the other hand is low enough inpact - maybe you could look into something like that. You only need to start with a few minutes a day. Talk to your doctor to see if he will allow you to use the bike - you can get a very inexpensive one at walmart - you only need it to get you down to a weight where you can really start exercising. Plus it is good for when the weather is bad and you don't want to leave the house.

Courtney, I wasn't ignoring you, I promise! I hate that responses don't all appear at the bottom of the thread . I accidentally saw your response when scrolling or I'd never have seen it.
I am going to start the treadmill next week (possibly later this week). I had to buy a new motor belt and am waiting for it to arrive. HOPING that will fix the stalling issue that my son has been having on the treadmill.
I'll check at Wal-Mart and see if they have something other than omeprazole/Prilosec there. They're over-the-counter meds but Nexium is by prescription. I had this problem before surgery but I expected it to get better, not worse, with surgery. I didn't tell my surgeon about it for fear that it would be the one and only reason I'd be disqualified for surgery.
I'm really going to try to be vigilant about protein and fluids. The most offending liquid is water, believe it or not. I can't tolerate it unless it's mixed in with something but now the mixers are causing heartburn, too.
Like I said, I WILL get this under control one way or another.
I'm determined. I didn't go through all of this to just **** it away and not do anything to help myself.
