Thank you for your comments.  I don't doubt for a second that DR Aceves is one of the best doctors.  I really do have a problem with the traveling though.   A lot of the things Jo said does make sense but think is still my problem with the bathroom is major there's no way I can go 6 hours on a flight without going.  With my problems I can't even go a 1/2 hour.  lol   It's pathetic.  I think the only way I could ahve surgery done with Aceves is if I loose 50 lbs first so I fit in the plane bathroom a little better.

You say you are positive about the Mexico doctors. Can I ask what exactly that is based on? Is this the doctor self-reporting, or are you checking independent sources? I would be wary of a doctor who's main objective is to sell more surgeries.

Regardless, you keep coming back to having issues with traveling. Sounds to me you've made up your mind. Additionally, in the off chance there is a complication, you'd probably want to be closer to home, no?

I researched mexico for 6 months.  I checked over dozen independant references between Dr Aceves and Dr Alvarez.  Meaning I meet different ones on OH and Vertical Sleeve talk and called them.  It wasn't based on what the doctor says. Although I can tell you too I had a few questions for DR Alvarez emailed him and he's really knowledgable.  He even wrote a book on VSG which I got even though I decided no on Mexico just to have the info.   Even spoke with a couple of ppl who clearly had the money to do it in the States but didn't want to wait and also felt like I do that the experience in there area was no where near the experience in Mexico.  VSG has only been happening in the States for 3 1/2 years in Mexico it's been 8.
True as far as complications that better to be close to home.  Unless of course your parents happened to be retired in Mexico which mine are. lol :-)  Another reason I wouldn't want to have complications in the States since my insurance doesn't cover it I'd be forever in debt.  In mexico the care is better and some of the doctors include complications in there packages at least complications that should arise immediately such as a leak or other surgery related complications.
I'm all 4 either Dr Aceves or Dr Alvarez in Mexico  if it wasn't for not feeling up to travel.  But based on my research I would recommend it to someone that would be up for the travel.

My concern with Mx is that I've heard a lot of people who tell their tale, and their story is along the lines of they picked a bunch of us up at the airport, we got to the facility, we were prepped for surgery, the doctor came and talked to us all, there were two or three people ahead of me, they took me in for surgery around 3 pm, yada, yada, yada.  And I'm thinking this guy is doing one procedure per hour - it's an assembly line.  And that includes turnover time in the OR.  He can't be doing the neatest or most gentle work (and these stories always go on about how uncomfortable those first nights/days are).  And that's not saying that these surgeons aren't experienced, or that the care is bad, or that the patients aren't 100% satisfied.  So in that respect, any place, including those in the US, where the emphasis is numbers would give me pause.  I wouldn't want to be the fourth surgery of the day.

Well from both the patients cordinatoors and the references I called independantly neither Dr Aceves or Dr Alvarez choose to book more that 3 surgies a day tops.  Both patient cordinators explains so that they would have enough time for the paitents.  I know I've had other abdominal surgery (nothing to do with weight loss) in the past and my surgeon was doing 5 to 6 surgeries a day.
One reference spoke so highly about Dr Alvarez she said that he checked on her 5 to 6 times a day.  And a couple times just stayed chatting in the room with her and her husband like her friends for an hour or so as if they were good friends.  You'd NEVER here of that in the States.  Also my parents live in Mexico the health care is pheonaminal compared to the States.  The doctors are like the way there were a hundred years ago in the States.  They actually give the patient time and care.
I do think some of the doctors in Tijuana may have there practice kind of like that what you mentioned.  They don't seem to have as good of a rep as the Dr As.  I'd would never have my surgery done there not only becuase of that kind of reputation but Tijuana is not a safe area.  Also the price is much cheaper than the DR As so they are probably cutting corners somewhere.

I used Thomas umbach in las Vegas. I paid out of pocket $10,400. I also just read a post of a member in louisianna who paid $9800. so do more checking before Mexico. flights and hotels to las Vegas are cheap!

My local surgern is under 11,000 also.  Problem is not sure if he's skilled enough.
