Possibly a dumb question

Since B-12 is sublingual...would it hurt not to put it under my tongue but to just swallow it instead?  I hate the super sweetness of the tablet under my tongue and would rather avoid that if possible.

I think the reason for it being sublingual is that it goes right into your system and you get optimal benefit.  Swallowing the tabs, and going through your digestive system, probably does not get enough of the vitamin to where it needs to go would be my guess.

It doesn't take long to dissolve.  I got the cherry flavored ones at Walgreens and they aren't bad.

You should not swallow a sublingual B-12.  Your stomach can't absorb it, so it'll just pass through and you'll get no benefit from it.

Sutherngrl, those are the ones that I hate! LOL! They're far too sweet and are gross to me.

Thanks momsy. My surgeon gave me an injection last month and wants me to have an injection monthly. He is located over 2 hours away from me and it's just no feasible for me to miss work (even though I work from home) or to drive that distance for an injection. If it's necessary, of course I'll do it but I'm trying something different for a month to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks Luna. :)

The B12 is absorbed best through the membranes in your mouth.  If you swallow it then not enough of it will absorb to do you any good.  You can also get B-12 in a weekly nasal spray or monthlu shot.  I have heard some people say that the monthly shot does not keep levels consistent enough for maximum benefit, they feel their energy levels drop near the end of the month.

You can ask your surgeon or PCP about prescribing the nasal spray if you really hate the tablets.
