Why?

Sleeved 5-7, on liquid diet only still. Sometimes I feel like if I drink more than a sip I'm full.  Once it took me over 4 hours to get down a single 8oz shake. However, today, out of old habit I guess and not thinking, I picked up my powerade zero and took not just one gulp, but chugged it. After a few seconds of chugging I thought "OMG! What am I doing?" Scared stiff I waited for pain or vomitting but nothing. No pain, no reaction at all. It felt just like it did before surgery. It scared me. Shouldn't I have restriction? Shouldn't I have a reaction to chugging liquid? I did with thicker stuffer but never tried to drink more than a sip before due to fear & what I have been told. So, Why can I chug? and should I chug if I can? Shouldn't I have a reaction? vomit? pain? some kind of restriction?  Any tips?

restriction doesn't really apply to liquid.  I have felt occaisional discomfort drinking something too cold too fast, but usually I do OK.  I guess I am more of a sipper than a chugger.  Don't look for trouble.  This time was OK but next time might not be.  Give yourself some time to heal.

I was not a chugger or gulper before VSG, but I did not have hardly any swelling and could drink easily right after surgery.  It's great that you didn't double over in pain, but don't pu****  We get one chance to heal.  Keep sipping, or drinking a little larger swallows than that, but don't gulp.  Not at less than 2 weeks out.

The *worst* pain I ever had was drinking protein hot chocolate too fast.  I have no idea why that stuff shuts down my pyloric valve when no other liquid does.  But the pain was miserable, and persisted for 20-30 minutes.
