Pre-op diet?
I have a date, June 11th. I am very excited! But right now I am a little confused. I called my surgeons office because I am not do to see him until just 4 days before surgery and there has been no mention of a pre-op diet?! So when I call the coordinator tells me he does not believe in a pre-op diet. He has success without this step because with a liquid diet before, they are tired of liquids after and rush to get to solids. I can see that, but I have read on here its good to have a carb detox before surgery. ugh!!! What is right!!??? I am watching what I eat, but just want to be successful. I will be a revised lap band and cannot face failure again!!!
All docs are different. This is the first I've heard with no preop diet, but I'm betting he's not the only one. Some have all-liquid preop diets, but not all.
My surgeon's preop was 5 protein drinks OR bars a day (my choice of which) and one real meal with 5 ounces of protein and 2 1/2 cup servings of non-starchy veggies. I found it pretty easy after the first couple of days.
Somebody else I know had three meals a day like the one I described.
My suggestion is that if you are motivated and want to do something, choose something that sounds reasonable to you and do it. There is no reason for you not to start losing ahead of time. Or, do exactly what your doc says and assume he's right. I do know that I'm very glad NOW that I lost 13 pounds before surgery. Many people lose much more. Why am I glad now? Because it's GONE. Otherwise my ticker would say I had lost 15 instead of 28!
But if you'd given me the choice ahead of time, maybe I would have enjoyed more Tex Mex and pasta before the big day. It'll all come off eventually anyway!
This is different. YOU are different today than you were before, and this procedure is different. You WILL make it work, no matter what you do! Sometimes there is no "wrong" answer, just different paths to "right."
