Severe Back Pain & Constipation
I got sleeved on 5-7-11. I have farted, burped and hiccuped but I have not yet pooped nor even had the feeling of needing to poop. However, I do pee just fine. Forgive my grossness, but is this normal?
On a different note, my pain is very minimal from the surgery but rather I'm having severe backpain. At first I thought it was the surgery, then I thought it was the bed, now I'm sure it's something else. It makes everything painful & hurt. I have tried everything and the pain won't go away, even with the pain meds. Anyone else encounter this? I read it could be a side affect?
I am waiting until Monday to go to the doctor unless things worsen. They don't seem "urgent" but I'm worried & very uncomfortable. Any thoughts? thanks.

My thought is.... When I am constipated..I get bad lower back pain. Sooo, where you haven't gone.

PS. When they put us to sleep, your bowel is the last to wake!

Your pain meds contribute to constipation. Try to avoid taking them if you can. At 6 days post op you can try liquid tylenol during the day, and save the pain meds for before bed. Your back pain could be from the constipation but you should speak with your surgeon. Have you been walking? Try walking around your neighborhood for about 30 minutes twice daily. Walking increases motility, helping constipation. Make sure you are getting enough water. That will also help. Miralax is a great over the counter laxative. It may take a few days to work, but you can try it. I use it daily becouse my only problem post op has been constipation because of the low fiber in my weight loss meal plan. I hope you feel better soon.
