4th Time Told NOT to get Surgery!
Congratulations on losing 40 lbs! That is not easy to do and shows a lot of commitment on your part.
I lost 50lbs twice before surgery and gained it all back. Since surgery I've lost 110 lbs and have been maintaining it for about a year. I was NEVER able to maintain pre-surgery.
Do I still have to work at it? Absolutely! Does surgery make it easier? Absolutely! I try to eat healthy and low card (specifically I try to follow a Paleo / Primal diet), but there are times that I'm not home and have to eat out or just haven't planned like I should to make sure there is something there for me to eat or my TOM comes and I just want to eat everything or something else comes along that would have normally set me back to all of my old habits. BUT the sleeve keeps me in check. No matter how much I WANT to eat everything in sight, I can't. The key is to get back with the program and not let it turn into something you do all of the time.
I admit there are times that I think like your friends. If only I could have embraced this lifestyle I'm living now pre-surgery I wouldn't have needed it. But I could never have gotten here without surgery and I don't think I would have been able to live like this for the rest of my life without it either.
Just because you've lost 40 lbs, doesn't mean you'll be able to keep the weight off or keep losing and it doesn't mean you're a failure. Look at the stats, they don't lie. We all needed this surgery for one reason or another. Know your reasons and embrace them!
Good luck!

My therapist, my wife and my medical doctor were ALL against it. My medical doctor was advocating the Band!I did it anyway, and am VERY happy, My wife is happy, even my doctor is happy now. You wind up with a stomach that looks like a fat ball point pen, you would have to tolerate a lot of pain to stretch it out much. Just RESEARCH your doctor and the facility, this is major surgery and CAN go terribly wrong. Don't go to cut-rate or inexperienced surgeons, and be sure you are in a hospital for a couple of days. Don't OUT PATIENT. People who skimp on these things become the horror stories of this procedure. You don't want to be one of them. Good luck.

Hey I can tell you that the surgery will help a lot. If you have already made the lifestyle changes, I think you are in the right frame of mind for surgery. This will make it a lot easier to keep on eating healthy. It will also help maintaining a lot easier than without the sleeve. If you are in a healthy frame of mind, the sleeve will work for you. The restriction is nice. I don't care if it does stretch some, you will still get full much more quickly. The sleeve never reaches the capacity it did before surgery. No way no how. If you want to lose it and maintain, the sleeve will help a lot. I also know what it's like to be diabetic and/or prediabetic. Obesity surgery is one of the biggest helpers with diabetes.
What I'm saying is go for it! This is a great tool.
