PRE-OP and Post Op Shakes....Can Unsweetned Almond Milk be used?

I can have some dairy and soy but too much of it makes me kind of sick.  With dairy I can get a sinus infection if I have too much.  Soy makes my female problems worse.  It's not that I can't have dairy or soy at all.  But I know they tell you to have 5 shakes a day preop!  So I'm thinking ahead.  Anyone ever use Unsweetned Almond Milk? I was thinking I could use that as tHe base intead of regular milk or soy milk (lacaid would both my sinuses too.)  and the protein supplement could be whey or soy.?  (alternating to not get too much of one thing)  May alternate with egg protein too however I know that egg protein is not as absorbed as well by the body.  Any suggestions???

It's the only thing I use! I like the texture and the taste.

I love unsweetened almond milk - I get the kind that's 35 cal/cup. I use it for my coffee (instead of cream or half/half) and all my shakes.

I generally don't like whey protein, but use soy and egg white proteins (that is when I'm not drinking RTD shakes).

Awesome!  So I assume it can be safely used in the PreOp diet.  I asked the Dr's Cordinator but she didn't know.   BTW What are RTD shakes?

 RTD = ready to drink

I think you should be safe with almond milk! I used Silk (vanilla flavored) but sometimes did half Silk/half water. It tasted good. As far as the protein powder stuff goes, for you, I'd suggest whey protein since you're sensitive to soy. I used Pure Protein (25g protein, 3g carbs, 130 calories per scoop). It tasted really good and creamy with the milk but also tasted good with just cold water. I got the Cookies 'n Cream and the chocolate ones. They were delish.

 watch the silk vanilla flavored it has a LOT of carbs/sugar in it.  I don't know if they make a sugar free verion but I'd stay away post surgery or do 1/2 in 1/2 like you said.

Unsweetened vanilla is SF i believe. Or very low since it's still 35 cal/cup lol.

 Oh I know the unsweetened vanilla almond milk is very low, she was talking about the Silk (soy) Vanilla which is 10g of carbs in 1 cup and 100 calories.  Which is why I too choose the almond milk.  Though the almond milk only has 1g of protein it also only has 2g of carbs and the 35 calories.
