How consistet is your weight loss?

Mine seems to be up and down on a daily basis.  I know, I know, stop stepping on the scale every day...well, forget that.  I'm going to weigh daily because I can and because I want to...:) now to get to my point...I seem to gain and lose all through the week but only drop maybe 2 pounds and keep them off.  My surgeon told me that as overweight as I am, I should rapidly lose for about 6 months and then slow down.  I expected more of a loss than 2 pounds a week this early out, especially with the limited calories that I'm getting on a daily basis.  I'm almost getting in my daily fluid intake, getting close to my protein intake and not exercising per my doctor's instructions until I've lost a significant amount of weight.  He said if I can't do it in water, then don't do it.  Unfortunately, I have no access to a pool and I'm not going to get in the alligator/mosquito infested swamp in our backyard.  Perhaps I need to do more to lose faster or maybe this is just the way my body is going to lose weight and I should be happy with it.

So, what's your losing pattern like?

I've lost about .8-1 lb daily for the last month or so.  Total I'm down 49 in two months, but I lost 17 of it by 6 days post op.

Are you going to the bathroom consistantly?  I know just doing that helps the loss!

All in all, you've lost about 38 pounds in a little over a month?  I know I couldn't do that preop!

I think you're doing great!  Patience:) Thats coming from an inpatient person:)

I lost very consistently all the way up until I was about 10-12lbs from goal then it slowed down to a couple pounds a week. I can't remember my weekly trends, but by 4 months out I had dropped 80 of my 115lbs I needed to lose. I hit goal in 6.5 months. The one trend I see is that none of us lose weight at the same rate even some "heavyweights" lose slower or a different pace than others.

I was a scale ***** Since you can't technically work out, can you lift light dumb bells while hanging out at the house? 5-8lbs isn't too much as this point and building muscles in your arms can increase your fat burning.

I didn't "work out' until I was 4 months out due to complications. I wasn't allowed to walk more than 1/4-1/2 mile per day. I have no idea on your co-morbidities or metabolic issues (if you have them, they can slow down your weight loss), or what your food intake looks like. But, for me, I had no comorbidities, and low carbed it all the way to goal. I never had a true stall, not one week went by that I didn't lose weight.

I am pretty consistant where 2-3 lbs a week when I am sticking strictly to my eating habits. This has been me since my 2nd or 3rd month post op. I think if you look at my readings most of them are around 10 lbs a month, month 4 I entered with a stall, month 7 I was away from home for two weeks (restaurant food) and was up 3 lbs when I came back, mostly sodium I think because I was able to drop them within 3 days with lots of fluids. So if I didn't go away I probably would have lost my normal 10 lbs. I still have 5 months to go to my year of surgery date and hoping I can continue the trend and have it all off by the end of my year. The nicer weather is starting to come here so I will be out walking even more to and from work, my baby is in a daycare now so I am able to use the time to walk instead of racing home to meet my time with the babysitter.

Are you having joint issues? Just wondering if that is why the doctor wants you in water?

Have you thought about joining a YWCA with a pool? A lot of them offer water aerobics classes. Trust me, it is fun!

Are you keeping a spreadsheet? That's the only way I can see a TRUE pattern of my loss.

Mine so far has been either not loosing anything for several days or going up a pound or two before I eventually get back to where I was .. then suddenly I'll be 2 pounds down from the day before.  Goes up .. then down..

I have problems with fluid and swelling in my legs though which I'm taking Lasix for.  I stopped taking it for about a month to see how it would do.  My weight loss seemed to really slow down when I did this.  Now that I'm taking it again its going a little better.  When I first get up in the morning my weight will usually be up about 1 pound from the day before.  I attribute this to "water weight" or fluid.  After I take my morning vitamins and medicine (including the lasix) I start going to the bathroom for a few hours getting rid of the fluid and my weight will drop down below that 1 lb gain and I will keep dropping down lower and lower till the lasix stops working.  That is the official weight I use for the day, when my lasix wears off and then I record my weight.

I averaged a pound a day for the first month, then slowed down with some 2-3 pound weeks and some weeks with no losss.  Slowed down again as I got close to 200.  I'm hoping to keep the weight moving with more exercise.  I started with walking for the first month or so and then added water aerobics.  Now I'm trying spinning class.

Mine is consistently inconsistent! If I lose 2-3 lbs in a week, I consider it a good week. Some weeks I don't lose any but it always starts back up. Also, I am not a lose a pound a day kind of gal. Mine seems to be 2 tenths then 1 tenth and then maybe 4 tenths. I've decided to sit back and just enjoy the ride.
