I live in Florida and we have had a trip planned to Hawaii for over a year.  Mind you, I am very anxious as it is about this trip because I have not been on a plane for a very, very long time - I don't like planes and it is a long trip.  My question is, would you go on a trip like this 6 weeks post-op?  Or would you wait until you got back to get sleeved?  Which, btw, I am also anxious about?

Id wait until I got back - I wouldnt ruin my  big vacation by being fresh out of surgery. At 6 weeks, i was very weak, barely eat a thing, difficult to stay hydrated still, and too tired to enjoy anything, let alone hawaii.

I would go! I was off work for 6 weeks and I felt like it was the perfect amount of time.

I would have no problem going on vacation at 6 weeks out.  I went on one at 4 weeks out and it was fine.  Yes I did bring my protein and had that at times ...and then just ate what I could.  I was able to get exercise on vacation and enjoyed it just as much.  I personally would get my sleeve just as soon as I could and get to that losers bench! no need to wait...

Shoot, I'd go in a heart beat.  I had a revision from band to sleeve, went back to work in 5 days, and a road trip in 7 days.

You just won't be able to eat huge quantities of food.  But after the sleeve you never will again anyway.

I was back to work in 2 weeks and feeling fine.  By 6 weeks I couldn't even feel the healing of the surgery anymore-hiatal hernia included.  The only thing still lingering by that time is that my energy level was not as high as it is now, but of course I have lost a lot of weight since then.  If it is a vacation you won't need to worry about having stamina for 18 hours of work and making dinner, and chores and all of life's normal activity.  If it were me, I would go.  But I think I would also purchase travel insurance just in case.

At 6 weeks out, I was feeling well enough to go on vacation :)  I would go post-op if I were you!

I think I would have been feeling good enough to fly somewhere for a vacation at a month out.

Don't put off being sleeved. At 6 weeks, you should be through the worst of the recovery and adjusting to your new way of eating.

I was camping at 5 weeks out.. so a nice vacation, with a cushy bed.. and plenty of access to rest and relaxation.. GO!

You may not have your total energy back, and you will still be in the learning to eat phase.. but take it slow, do not overbook too many side-trips and activities and play it by ear and you should be good!
