No pre-op diet

Yes I am so happy I don't have to do a Pre-op diet my wonderful surgeon just told me to go on a liquid diet 24hrs before surgery. I wonder if pre-op diet depends on your BMI or size don't really know I am 5ft2in 236pds Bmi 42

Hey Peeches I am so happy for you and congrats again!! I was one of the lucky ones that did not have to do a strict pre op diet either! I only had to loose 10lbs to qualify for surgery and that was for my health insurance. My surgeon only requested me to do a 48hr liquid diet before my surgery. My surgeons office based it on your BMI, if your BMI was greater than 50 than you had to do a 2 week pre op diet and mines was only 46 so I was lucky! Good luck!

I did not have to do 2 weeks of liquids, but I did have to do 2 weeks low carb. All clear liquids the day before surgery. Not sure how my surgeon based it on.

 No preopp here either.

 My bmi is 35 and I have to do the 10 day preop.  I guess it depends on your surgeon.  I was hoping I wouldn't have to.

I KNOW YOUR GLAD! I DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ONE EITHER. YOUR SURGEON IS THE ONE WHO MAKES THE PRE-OP DIET DECISION. SOME SURGEONS LIKE FOR YOUR LIVER TO SHRINK BEFORE THEY DO THE PROCEDURE.

Lucky I only had a 24hr liquid diet too!

I only had to lose 14 lbs before surgery. I did not have to do any diet at all before surgery. Just no eating or drinking 8 hrs prior to surgery. My bmi was 43.

 I am 4ft11in and had BMI of 42.2.  I did have to do a pre-op diet, but was told that it was more to accomdate the surgeon.  The pre-op diet promotes rapid weightloss and that shrinks your liver.  Which they have to move out of the way to get to your stomach.  I think it is really just a surgeon's preference.
