Anemia
General good things to know about iron supplementation
Take 2 hours away from nuts, dairy, calcium, whole grains, whole eggs, coffee/teas (tannins are the cultprit), AND BEANS!
Having your folate checked on your labs will let you know how your folate is, but if you need to take folate (folic acid) taking it WITH your iron is good, as is taking a C then (absorbs best in a c-rich environment) as well as taking your Bs then, as some anemias are because of B12 deficiencies.
when I take my iron, I take them with 800 mg of folate (because I had been low in my folic acid on the previous labs draw), vitamin C (to help with absorption).
I take it near bedtime because I have had my last dairy thing (a protein shake) around 6 or 7 at the latest, I go to bed around 9.
Its a hassle to figure out the initial schedule of your vitamins, but getting the schedule down will help ultimately. And then its a hassle if you have to stop taking them (I stop 3 days before a lab draw, I always have and will because its just what my doctor asks, not all do). I have to put a big fat NO note on my vitamins.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR IRON LABS PULLED WHEN YOU ARE FEELING SICK!!!
if you do this, then some things will be falsely high and some things will be falsely low and its a waste of your blood and time !!!
My hematologist (that I go to know, after realizing how much my GP did NOT know) says folks who are taking iron supplements need to get tests every 3 to 4 months to make sure things are going right and they are not overdosing and taxing their bodies!! WE CAN get too much iron and its no good for units!
End of public service announcement on iron (I think - reserve the right to edit and add more words!)

I had my Surgery in Sept and I have Anemia. It's due to my very heavy AF and smaller cells. I had to have a Heme-infusion 3 weeks prior to make sure my levels were closer to normal.
I'm hoping once more of the weight comes off my AF will become less irregular.
