FOOD SCHEDULE AFTER FIRST WEEK??...
VSG on 03/06/12
Question...
I would think that after your first week, the swelling has gone down and you can begin to start eating foods. so for those on mushies....
what was your diet first week out?
did you eat much protein, if yes how much?
what did your schedule look like? breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack??
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED! trying to figure out and plan for myself.
i know everyone is different but i would love to see what others have done.

I'm 10 days post-op and definitely not ready for food. My surgeon has advised me to wait to 18 days out for full liquids and 21 days out for puree/mushies. I know that he's probably cautious but I am not looking forward to feeling stuck or stuffed or any of that. When I do start, I"m planning on soft scrambled eggs, humus, tuna salad, chicken salad, pureed veggies like butternut or summer squash/mushrooms etc..
Have you checked out the website theworldaccordingtoeggface.com It's pretty good!

After the first week, I was allowed to start back on my medications as before that they felt "stuck". But I've been told to stay on liquids for a full 3 weeks to keep the stitches safe. Then I'll start the soft diet which goes on until my 3 month mark. So Monday, I look forward to a scrambled egg. I was told to take a tiny bite and then wait to see if it stayed down, and then take another small bite, etc . . .Other foods wil include canned chicken or tuna, canned roast beef or corned beef hash (not something I normally eat but I've heard it does well during this phase) and deli meat and cheese and yogurt. . .
We ate alot of grits, oatmeal, and after I think it was 14 days we could start stuff like Vienna sausage and potted meat.
We were also allowed canned chicken and tuna as long as we kept it really moist. Add a little lowfat/nonfat mayo and just the juice of some relish for a faux chicken or tuna salad. Just be sure you break the chicken up really well with a fork or put it in a blender and blenderize it.
Use the Torani flavored syrups on oatmeal to make them taste a little different. If you like grits, add some cheese to add a little more protein.
If you like SF Pudding, add a little protein powder to it to just get a little extra.

Was on clear liquids for 10 days, full liquids for another 10 days, and then pureed for 10 days. No solid food of any kind for one whole month, while the stitches are healing. My protein levels were pretty low the first 10 days. I couldn't start protein shakes until the full liquid stage, so I didn't get anywhere near 70g in the beginning, which is expected. Now my protein, carb, and calorie levels are in perfect range, but I still can't get in enough liquids though. This is my struggle.

I'm 5 days post op. For week one and two I am on full liquids/pureed diet. I eat only breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have 6 tsp of food for each meal. My faves right now are 2tsp cooked oatmeal + 2 tsp sugar free yogurt + 2 tsp applesauce...4tsp ff refried beans + 2 tsp cheddar...4 tsp pureed chicken breast + 2 tsp mashed potatoes.
Tomorrow I'm making a roast with potatoes and carrots and will have 6 tsp of that - pureed of course.
I also try to get 64 oz of fluids in - including one protein shake. It really doesn't sound like much, but it is enough. In fact I still can't fini**** all. I give myself 30 minutes to eat and no drinking 30 minutes before or after my meals.

Did you get any instructions???
It should not be up to you to figure out if your swelling has gone down or figure out a food plan......
And this post is intended to be helpful......You should be under your Surgeons guidance, instructions and care......

my surgeon has guidelines, actually pretty great ones.
i was released from the hospital on puree/mushie foods.
(all patients are)
i just wanted to see what everyone else was doing when they started puree/mushie foods.
