Insurance pays for saggy eye-lids. Just need to fail the visual fields test. Best, Sharon

Hi Linda!  I just turned 57 yesterday.  I had my surgery on 8/22/11 and have never regretted it.  I have always been one of those people who looks younger than I am.  I knew I'd probably look more my age when I lost the excess weight.  I do have loose skin and I feel like I look closer to my age, but my mother in law, who is brutally, I mean brutally honest, keeps telling me I look 10 years younger!  I joked a couple of times here that I'd rather be a healthy prune than an unhealthy plump plum, and it is still true.  My health has done quite a turn around since surgery: on 1 BP med, with BP great, rather than 3 meds with it still high; no more diabetes meds; much more mobility and flexibility - I've been taking a jazz class since 3 wks post-op and will be in my first dance recital in 43 years! The dance is very fast and I'm keeping up; still use a c-pap, but don't need oxygen bled into it.  I have my 6 month with the surgeon on 2/28, and my annual physical in March, so I will find out more.  Everyone must make up his or her own mind about what's right for them.  I just know that even with the risks and the probability of loose skin and wrinkles, if I hadn't had the surgery, my health would be even worse now, and I might not have even been alive.  Good luck with your decision!

That is where i am now with my deicision.  I feel if I can't find a way to do this, I'll be worse in one year and maybe to the point where i can't walk.

I was up for hours last night reading what everyone has been writing here.   Lots to consider!  The bottom line is...I want to be healthy again and mobile!

What is age...it's just a number.  With people living longer than ever, we have to be the healthiest we can be or we become a burden on our loved ones.   I think there is a quote in the bible about our bodies shoud be treated like a temple.  Love ourself like a temple, not become the size of. Temple.  LOL.

I am 56 and got sleeved 4 weeks ago for me.....to be the best I can be, for my children and 4 beloved grandkids, and my hubby.

We love to travel when we can and my hubby can walk, walk, walk.  And I was hurting to the point of crying and not able to sleep at night from the pain.  Now I am looking forward to doing more and enjoying our lives together.

I do have. Little more neck wrinkles now, and I already have the batwings, the boobs to the belly button, and belly flab that is yuck, and thighs that shake like a bowl full of jelly.  LOL.   But my clothes are loose and getting smaller.  As long as my husband still loves me and desires me in the buff, (we discussed before surgery about the loose skin), life is good.

I'm getting more energy everyday. Less snoring.  No major health issues other than the joints which are much better now.   Go for it!

I've always felt that way...what is age, but a number?   But for some reason this number '60" has me in a downward spiral!   I think "you're getting old"...where before I never did!

My fat is holding me back from my life, the life I want to live.    And now here comes "60"...and once again, I'm being held back.

I can't do anything about the number, but I can about the weight.!

It's funny, the last age that bothered me was 30.  I agonized all my 29th year about turning 30....and it seems I'm doing it again!  The day I turned 30 I said to myself "this is it?  this is 30?  This is great, I don't feel 'old' at all!".

I will be 60 in October.  If I have the surgery, I"ll be much lighter by then. If i don't , I won't.

Hmm, I think i"ve answered my own question here!  I'm not too old to do this! :)

I decided on the surgery now up prepare for 60 (3 years and 4 months from now).  I want to be less weight, more energy, toned, stronger and feel good in clothes again .  I don't see plastic surgery in my future due to cost, but I'm ok with that.  Good luck!

It sounds like WLS has saved your life at least once already, why not again? You had to have a stress test to get the surgery and instead you found out you had a life threatening condition and got fixed. Congrats. Now it is time to do it again by having the surgery. Hanging skin is not pleasant, but it wont kill you. Obesity kills. I suggest you try the had surgery over 50 forum. it is an amazing group of ladies over 50 who have had WLS. I believe most will tell you they do not regret it except a few. Those few are doing another surgery because the first one did not work, what does that tell you? Good luck in the journey. Sharon

No, you are not too old.

Yes, you should be more focused on your physical health and less focused on how you will look when naked.

No, there is no amount of exercise that will mitigate the excess skin you are very likely to have.  If it is going to bother you that much (and I'll be honest, it does for me), then start saving for plastic surgery.

Good luck on your journey.

Hi Linda, I'm 59 & will be 60 this May. I am soo glad I was approved for surgery which is scheduled for this Thirsday 2/16. I suffer not only obesity, but with fibromyalgia, hi blood pressure, hi cholesterol & sleep apnea & I did ask myself that same question. But after so many years of losing & regainning I knew I had to do something for a better & healthier life. So I do wish you luck if you choose this journey also!!
