Are all protein shakes created equal?
Thanks for your advice. I will look for your brand when this one runs out.
I ended up buying whey isolate from Walmart. It's a big, black container with red writing on it. I actually went to buy the other one on here that someone said they buy at Walmart but they were sold out at the time. So, I decided to get this one instead. Last week when I went to buy another week's supply, and then they had in the other brand that I originally went for in stock, and it was cheaper too than what bought before, but since I had such a good lose the week I tried the isolate stuff, I just decided to just buy that again for this week. He He. I guess I will see how it goes. If it doesn't seem to make much difference in my weight loss, I think I will buy the less expensive stuff after a while. They are both a little less expensive than the Unjury and I actually like the taste better. So far, my loses are as good or better than they were on Unjury. It's only been a week though, so it's hard to say but so far, so good.
I actually started this post because my neighbor just had the surgery a month ago with the same doc as mine and her loses are blowing mine away, and she started a lower BMI. So, it made me wonder if her shakes were better or something. He He. Could be, who knows. She's sure rocking it! I am so happy for her!!
Anyway, I think the posts on here were very helpful info. I just wish I had this info sooner. He He. Oh well, live and learn. I am 15lbs from goal, so I guess it's all good anyway.
Thanks for your posting!!
I know I have said this over and over, but lots of newbies may not know that if you buy something from GNC and you don't like it, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days with your receipt. That works for me as there are a lot of funky tasting things out there that don't sit well with me.
The other thing , for me anyway, is that sometimes, especially immediately post-op, you get sick of the sweet taste of things. Try to get an unflavored high quality whey protein isolate that you can stir into soup or something not sweet. Be careful not to heat over 130 degrees, though, or the protein will clump.
Isopure clear ready to drink in the glass bottles is whey protein isolate and they are not so sweet and heavy on the stomach. They taste kind of like watered down koolaid. These saved me in the beginning when all the heavy shakes were just too much for me sometimes. There is 20 grams of protein in 1/2 bottle.
I use Solgar protein powder with the whey isolate. I also have Isopure unflavored protein powder. I find that the Isopure foams up in the blender so I end up letting it settle or straining off some of the foam. I either use the unflavored as a drink, flavored with some extracts or I mix some of it in broth.
So far, the powdered broth with protein samples I've tried have given me heartburn/reflux so I prefer to use regular broth and add the protein to it either with the powder or by mixing in Greek yogurt.
If I buy broth at the store, I use the ones with reduced sodium and no MSG.
