Exhaustion Finally Hit
I guess I am pretty lucky in that so far I have had very little pain, mild discomfort is about all. I haven't had any major issues except for the leg cramp my first day home. I've been losing steadily about 2 to 3 pounds a day. Haven't had any real issues with getting in my protein and water. Seem to do fine taking smallish pills. Even both my incisions are almost completely healed over. And I can't really say I feel any differently than I did before the surgery and I know that I am extremely blessed with all this complication-free recovery. But today, exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks. I had already gotten in 60g of protein before we even left the house so I don't think that was it. I was carrying a 48oz water bottle and had half of it drank before we hit the 4th place on our list so I pretty sure it wasn't dehydration. But for some reason I just could not keep my eyes open no matter what I did by the time we hit the 6th place on our list. And it wasn't like I was doing a whole lot except riding around. We shopped for about 20 minutes in one store and less than 10 in another and then the rest was all paying bills. Just a matter of running in the building, giving them my name, swiping my card and off we went again. Now of course, because of all the little cat naps in the truck, I am wide awake in the middle of the night too tired to sleep. At this point I am praying my surgeon gives me a couple extra weeks to recoup because there is no way I could an 8 hour day feeling like I do right now. Any ideas on how long this lasts? Or how to get my body to rest when I need it? (Like right now? lo)
I agree it takes awhile for anaesthia to completely leave Your body just had major surgery done just days ago. It's your body telling you to stay down, rest, heal. I also think cus you are losing 2 to 3 lbs/ day has something to do with your amount of energy. Your weight loss is incredible. Good luck and happy healing and losing!
I'm going to disagree that this is an anesthetic effect. The expectation of that effecting you is a few days after surgery.
I think this is normal and common for many people - your body is adapting to both a sudden and drastic reduction of calories. It hasn't been long enough from your surgery for your body to switch biochemistry fully from fat-storing to fat-burning. You're going to be tired easily in this first month.
Really... you're probably pushing yourself too much. You had surgery less than two weeks ago and you're complaining that you're tried by the SIXTH place you shopped at? Of course! Pace yourself and have patience with all the changes that are going to unfold. If you get tired after the fourth place, cut it for that day.
Good luck!

I had my surgery on the 13th and I still am not at full energy. Another girl in my office in four months out and assures me it will get better, but it hasnt yet.
Just relax and dont do too much! Also, omg congrats on the weight loss. Mine has stalled and i am not losing like you are, which is uber depressing.

I think it's lack of caloric intake and you just had major surgery , I was exhausted and then couldn't sleep. (if I remember correctly one of my sleeve sisters had the same issues). It passes
So let me get this straight. :-) You posted this just over ONE WEEK from surgery?
Holy crap, hon, slow down and take it easy! I didn't do anything this soon after surgery except lay around. I have a desk job, and worked from home on days 7-12. Meaning I sat in my desk chair at home and pounded on the laptop. My fingers were physical, but that's about all. Then went back to work on day 14 but did nothing but go back and forth to the office that week. About the only exercise I did was the walking they tell us to do. I walked around my kitchen, and a little around the neighborhood.
I've read that the body puts a lot of energy into healing after massive "insult" like surgery. It's why we need to protein-load and conserve energy.
