70 MAX ....
VSG on 04/06/12
I am going to scheule my revision from band to VSG next week. I really want to lose 70 lbs at the most. I am a healthy 45 year old male. I was very compliant with my lap band recovery. I lost about 40 lbs in the first 6 weeks. I was heavier then. About how much can I expect to lose in the 1st 6 weeks. I really do not want to go down more than 70 (I am 260 now). THANK YOU !!!!! I hope that you ALL are having a GREAT WEEK !!!
Congrats on chosing the VSG! I love mine.
Everyone is different, so only time will tell how much you'll lose in the first 6 weeks.
You will be in the driver's seat regarding how much you lose overall. It will depend on what and how much you eat (obviously). I think you'll find all of this easier with the VSG vs the Band based on what other revised patients have said here. Lots of vets and maintainers add back some fat and calories in the form of dairy or nuts or nut butters or healthy oils if they feel they lose too much. But for many of us, losing too much isn't a concern. It's getting to goal and staying there since it's still about what you put in your mouth.
Good luck!

I agree with Silly, everyone is different and it depends on what you eat. I am a 38 year old male that just had the VSG 4 weeks ago and I am currently down just under 40 pounds since surgery. I have seen on here where people have lost more weight that that and then again I have seen where people haven't lost this much...
Good luck to you!
Good luck to you!
I was down just under 40lb (call it 38-39) at the six week mark, starting at 292 and an ultimate goal of 190 (based upon a mid teens body fat % rather than scale weight). As noted above, there can be wide variations in results and loss rates, particularly early on. Also, early dietary restrictions from different programs can have some influence as well - I was on one of the more liberal programs that allowed for fairly rapid progression toward real foods as tolerated, and I was able to tolerate that progression while others progress more slowly, or have programs that progress more slowly.
When I was down 70 at about four months I was still losing at a 2-3lb per week rate, but probably could have slowed that had I bumped up my calories as I am doing now to transition to maintenance mode - I did have margin to consume more had I wanted to at the time, though I was well above the 6-800 calorie diet that many here use, and never considered doing the low carb thing that's in fashion today - I never did any of the fad diets in my pre-op years when I was working on adopting sane, balanced eating habits while losing and maintaining a fair bit of my original weight problem and wasn't going to fall for them post-op, either; at my relative lightweight starting point, I certainly didn't need whatever additional help they might provide, nor did I need the problems of transitioning off of them to a healthy maintenance diet.
I had originally targeted 200 as my nominal goal weight, but then adjusted that down as I lost and saw how my body composition was trending - it's difficult to lose only fat and preserve all of our initial muscle mass, so I re-evaluated things as I moved down the scale to reflect that reality.
Good luck with your next phase!

Thank You !!! I was out walking on the 4Th day after the band. I am taking 6 weeks off work (I have a job where I have to be able to lift over 15lbs.) I am going to Florida to our mobile home. I can concentrate on getting better. I am hoping to lose 40lbs. post surgery. 800 calories for a male is really to little. 1000-1200 is considered where we should be.....
