Hi there, I asked my surgeon if I could drink from a straw and he said of course! So I'm not quite two weeks out and I've been drinking from a straw since the day after I came home from the hospital and I have NO problems at all. Its fascinating how many different restrictions from surgeons are out there.

I was told no straws as well, but since i was a habitual straw user presurgury i never got in the water/fluids i needed for a good month or so, then i got one of those plastic reusable cups from walmart that comes with a straw and decided i would try it, BAM i was emptying my cup and have never had any issues with it, it actually helps me get in my fluids... i do think its a case by case basis

I'd worry more about the smoothie than the straw.
