What's the deal with the 50% by 3 months, 80% by 6 months etc?

I always enjoy hearing from you Jo! You are such a smart girl!

Anyway, I am glad to hear things are going well for you. I am glad to hear that the parameters I have stuck in my head sound right too. He He   The 70+, below 40 in carbs..... That's the main thing to have down anyway. He He

I am not sure if was you or someone else, well I guess several people told me, to get while the getting is easy, but it was good advice. I am glad to hear it's going the same for you now as it was 2 months out. I recently tracked my WL is an easier format and totaled each month up and I noticed the same thing. I am losing at about the same rate as month 2. I am glad to hear that yours still is that way, hopefully mine will stay that way too. I am losing about 10lbs a month, so it makes the math pretty easy on how long until I make goal. It's still a long time, he he, but at least I have some idea of when I should be here.

You look fantastic and are doing great sister!

Thanks for letting me know your experience. I especially love hearing from you since you have the same doc and are 3 months ahead of me. I know you stick to your guns and are super smart, so watch your progress and heed your advice.

Thanks again for your input!

Just wanted to add that I tried to follow that myself. I feel it helped me to have lofty goals. I reached goal by 8 1/2 months out. My plan was 100 pounds by 6 months, which was about 80%. I missed it by 2-3 pounds, but I probably wouldn't have achieved the results I did if I hadn't set that goal for myself. I don't expect to lose weight exactly like anyone else, but I use the achievements of others to help guide my expectations. Good luck to you. It sounds like you're well on your way.

Thank you! You said it well.

It helps to keep me motivated and have some idea of what "on track" looks like for me. I really had no other guide to go by. I will probably be right about where you were when my 6 months is up at the end of the year. I think I will make my goal about 8-9 months out too. Just in time for spring! I can't wait to go to the pool and not feel like the fat girl!

Thanks for your input. I am glad to see that it worked for you.

Whoever the "vet" was that posted that crapola, is full of bull manure, right up to their eyebrows!

There is absolutely NO truth to that at all, NONE!

There is no "Magic" window for weight loss.  I personally know people that did NOT follow their diet plan, did not exercise on any kind of a regular basis, and lost only about 10% of their excess weight in the first 6 months.

Then, they "got religion", and decided to really work their program.  They began to lose, rapidly, and over the next 12-18 months, they were able to get off 100% of their excess weight.

The ONLY thing that actually matters is how well you actually work your program.

I personally lost about half of my excess weight in the first 6 months, and about half over the next 12 months.  Yes, as you get lighter and lighter, your rate of weight loss slows down (you don't need as many calories to just exist at a lighter weight), but you can (and a LOT of people do) continue to lose weight.

Lots of people (including some really stupid Doctors) tell people things like this to try to motivate them to REALLY work their sleeve (or RNY, DS, etc.)  Unfortunately, they also discourage people who are somewhat slower losers.

Do not believe this junk.  There is absolutely NO truth to it, and there is no science behind it.  It exists in the imaginations of the ones that WANT to believe in magic.

Thanks for your input medic.

It's good to hear from you again. I decided to go ahead with nursing school after all. I was too far in to quit. It's going well so far. It's a lot easier with 70lbs off!

Anyway, thanks for your advice. I am sure I will make goal sooner or later.
