Denial not medically necessary
What was the reason for the denial? What exactly does your policy say about coverage for obesity treatment?
I know my policy is self-funded and I was denied even though I met the criteria laid out in my policy. I took my denial up with HR and they investigated and got it covered for me.
If it's simply a matter of paperwork, I would let the doctors office take care of it. If they are saying it's not medically necessary, then you may need to get letters of medical necessity from your PCP and any specialists you see.
Sorry about this. It's a battle to get coverage sometimes. I know I battled for over a year to get coverage. At first I didn't meet the criteria and then when I did, they still denied me, but I fought to get the coverage.
Whatever you do, don't give up the fight!

thank you so much they are saying it is not medically necessary my PCP is a ass he do not like to do his job thats why i am looking for a new pcp my surgeon office is so nice they going to fight it for me but i wrote a appeal letter just in cause i might need it also am going to my pcp and start seeing him regular so that can be documented because they did mention 6 month doctor directed weight management program i never did that
I was also denied (4 days before my scheudled surgery of all things) They too said it was not medically necessary.....as you can see from my starting weight *which the day of surgery was 325* how could it NOT be medically necessary?? lol
I think that these insurance companies just like to dick people around. None of them realize or probably care, that this surgery can save the patients life.
Glad that your surgeon's office is taking care of it for you, shouldn't be too much longer
Best of luck,
