ok, well I am heading to bed since nothing I can do tonight about this.

Just wondering if there is anything anyone recommends for the dry cough after the head and chest cold. It is so annoying and it keeps me up most of the night. I will check in in the morning to see if any good suggestions.

I have been on cough drops now for two weeks and they are not helping other then to sooth for a few mins.

I get seasonal allergies and the occasional round of sinus infections that I ignore for too long and develop into chest colds. After everything's out and I still have the dry cough, I set up my humidifier and shut the bedroom door. If you don't have one, running a steamy shower can help too. It does for me, anyway - I find that cough drops make mine worse because I can't tolerate the taste of sugar-free cough drops, so I'm pretty certain the ones I use dry out more than they help (or they're just too candy-ish and coat my throat with stuff that shouldn't be there).

Of course, when in doubt, call the PCP. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Call doc, tell them your cough is keeping you up. Every doctor I've ever asked confirms that OTC cough syrups waste money. Either codiene or cough pearls are the only thing I've known to work.

Ok, what are cough pearls? I will check with a dr. and put on the babys cold mist vaporizer. I have the heat on now at home and it could be the dry air. I just know I need a good night sleep, even better if my baby would stop climbing in bed with me and kicking my back all night lol. Had a not so fun two weeks with everyone in the house sick with this cold.

Sorry you are having to deal with the lingering cough.  Cough from viral infections can last 4-6 weeks after all other symptoms are gone.  If you are having a dry cough, are you having any post nasal drip...that can cause a cough too.  As for cough drops, do not use menthol ones.  The menthol acutally dries your throat even more which will increase the cough.  Taking something for post nasal drip may help.   Make sure you are getting in enough fluids as well.

The previous poster is right about the cough medicines.  Narcotic cough medicine or Tessalon Pearls are going to give you the best relief.

Hope this helps.

Yeah my Dr. friend told me to get the tylenol 1's with the codeine in them, they worked great last night but I only took one today before work and had to nap for 20 mins at lunch time. I can't make it through a day, I think it is from the surgery but since I went back to work I have been sick with that cold, and the cough now just won't let me sleep. Oh well in a few days I hope that these pills will work and get me feeling better because I really did feel good just before going back to work and that Sunday the cold started so not sure if the staff at work just think I am doing terrible from my surgery or what lol.
