So when will I be able to eat more than like 5 bites of food?
Don't get me wrong, I love my new body. I am just beginning to wonder if I am ever going to be able to eat a meal again.
I am three months out now and seriously can only eat like 5 bites of real food and I am done for hours. It is cute most of the time but sometimes it's annoying. I thought I would be able to eat like 1/2 of what I used to.
I don't know if my restriction will loosen more. If not, I am going to have to work hard at not wasting away. I seriously eat maybe 15 bites of food a day. I do shakes for my protein quota but I still can't eat hardly any real food (like sandwiches or pasta, just regular dinner type stuff).
I am just wondering if at 3 months out if this is what it is going to be like for the rest of my life or if my sleeve will loosen up more in time. I seriously worry about wasting away at this rate. He He I don't think I can live on 15 bites of food a day for life. Well, a short life. He He
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

My surgeon says that my restriction will change some, and that I will be able to eat significantly more at 9mos than now (I'm a little more than 3mos post-op). I'm enjoying my restriction while it's still there! He wants me to keep my portion size at 2oz until my next appointment (6mos post-op).
In terms of frustration with how little food there is, I find that if I take smaller bites (as in, teenie-tiny) I get a higher NUMBER of bites (and longer time to enjoy my meal) than if I'm taking "regular-sized" bites. If that makes sense.
Maybe this will help while you're in the super tight restriction phase?
How much do you eat per meal? Right now I'm at 2oz per meal. I have 1 protein drink and 3 solid meals per day. (Sometimes protein ice cream too). :) Softer foods I feel like I could eat more, but I measure out (and eat) 2oz. I mostly eat fish, cheese, and SUPER moist/juicy chicken, greek yogurt, and protein, so these softer things go down well. With grilled chicken breast or beef it is/would probably be closer to 1.5oz total.

I really struggled with this as well. At 3 months, I reached out to a vet on here, practically crying because I was still stuck at 2oz of food per meal. I was relying heavily on mushy/pureed meats, and super soft, I mean super moist meats like tuna salad and chicken salad to get my protein in on a daily basis. I couldn't do shakes so I had to really work on eating.
As for your sleeve maturing, and "relaxing" more, it will. Most of us experience it around 6-8 months out. I know about 4-5 months I was able to eat a few more bites. My one rule is that if I couldn't get in normal foods, then I made them mu**** sucks, but it worked. Also, I did not touch pasta, rice, breads, anything that could possibly expand in my stomach during my losing stage. Except at Thanksgiving, I literally put 1measured Tablespoon of broccoli rice casserole on my plate and I ate that last, and it had a big broccoli floret in it so it was probably a mere tsp of rice with cheese and a broccoli floret.
Normal dinner foods didn't happen until I was at goal. I pretty much lived on meat, cheese, greek yogurt, some beans, and green beans during my losing stage.
It gets better. Hang in there.

I'm at 7 months out now and I'm seeing some increase in what I 'can' eat but I don't eat to th point of full. For example, tonight was my wife and my special sunday that we do once a month where we eat whatever we want, irregardless of the health aspects. Tonight was chicken fried steak with gravy and potatoes. I had about a 1 inch by 3 inch piece of chicken fried steak and 3 tiny pieces of potato. I think at 3 months I'd be puking right now, so I am definatly able to eat more. I would estimate if it had been ground to a pulp, it would have been half a cup. Certain things, though, a single bite causes issues, so really it just depends on the food and how your body wants to react to it. But you will see some relaxing along with an increase in ability to eat slightly larger portions. Like is always said though, that doesn't mean you should eat more. Eat what your body needs and nothing more for the maximum weight loss benefit.
OK..... I mean this in the nicest way.......
It takes about 6 months to get your "head" used to new normals.....
You might be getting ahead of yourself...... The minute you think you got this....... Well...let's just say we've seen many times on this board when people stop way short of goal and disappear.....
The key is that when you reach goal.....your eating and capacity matches holding your desired weight...... until than I wouldn't worry to much about wasting away......Ice Cream and Cookies would fix that real fast!
Also, many....many on this forum would love to have your restriction......Dr. Aceves makes a nice tight sleeve..... care for it....don't over eat...preserve your restriction.... you will need it for long term.....

I am almost 18 mths out..and still can eat just 2oz..and i am done. BUT..my surgeon makes his sleeves nice and tight..
As far as sandwiches and pasta..i still do not eat those. I make my family regular dinner stuff, and i just eat 2oz of the meat..and i'm done. I get days that i'm irritated i cannot eat more..but i'm not hungry..it's all just a mental thing..and it doesn't happen that often.
