Hey peeps, I had sugery monday, aside from raging headaches all is good. This morning I woke up extremely nauseated, my doctor doesn't prescribe anything for nausea. Have any good ideas of what might be good to take I can buy over the counter to relieve some of this feeling?

Thanks in advance.

I got an anti nausea med otc and it worked well when I had surgery however, it did not work for me this last week when I had surgery and I puked it all up.  So my Dr did prescribe one for me as I have already had one trip to er for IV fluids earlier in the week.  I think you have to call your dr and beg.  I did hear about some folks taking dramamine for nausea.  I don't know how that works but you could call your Dr and ask?

My doc prescribed Zofran, but it's really expensive.  Ask your doc for Phenergan.  Much cheaper and makes you sleep.  You need something for the first week or two, and I continue to, even now after 3 years.

Zofran and kytril, both great for nausea are now available in generic forms so not so expensive.  Compazine is also great and cheaper, but can make you sleepy.  Are you just nauseous or vomiting also.  If no vomititng and you can get liquids in and keep them down?  You may need a PPI like   prevacid.  The anti-nausea meds can all cause constipation, so you need to be careful about that.  Ginger can also help relieve nausea- you can get ginger pills at vitamin and supplement stores.  Try not to let your stomach get too empty, suck on sf hard candy.  Liquids that are too cold or too hot may make you uncomfortabe too.  Either way you go you need to be persistant with your doc if you can't tolerate fluids.  If you feel dizzy when you stand, your mouth is really dry and your urine output decreases or your urine is really dark call your doc- all signs of dehydration that indicate you might need IV fluids.  Good luck and feel better.

Thanks all, I so appreciate all your input. I am keeping things down just really nauseated. I am struggling with fluids today due to that, but so far I keep sipping and I am hydrated. I will definitely talk to my doctor and see if he will prescribe something. I am having a swallowing test monday to make sure no leaks, so far I think I can hold out until then. More tired than I thought I would be, probably lack of protein/nutrition? I am logging my input, that kind of helps me.

Thanks bunches!

Ginger tea, hon. It should do the trick in most cases. Just stay hydraded too, as lack of fluids can greatly increase your chance of getting nauseous.

Yeah!! You did do it!!

I saw your name and had to see if you went through with it. I am so happy for you. It can be a challenge for a while, but in time you will see why so many of us love our sleeve.

I am so happy you got the guts to do it! Good for you girlfriend!

P.S. I haven't had much nausea since surgery so I really can't answer that part. Just wanted to tell you that I am excited you decided to take the leap and join the wonderful world of the sleeve!

On my way!!!!!!

Thank you all again, it's so nice to have encouragement. I will sure try the ginger tea, gonna send the family out to get me some. I have been trying to stay busy today, one of my girls is packing and moving for her job in a few weeks.
In between I rest, she has had her tearful moments and so have I today. I am full of emotion and I guess just weak, so the tears flow pretty easy right now.
On the bright side, I have been preoccupied mentally so not thinking too much about how I would just love to puke. In between I take small sips. I think so far today I am at about 38oz of total fluids, going to try to make in another 20 by the end of the night. That might be ambitious, but I am working my way up to at least the 64 oz !
Smooches to you all, I am sure I will be feeling better in the near future and will post it!
