Hi peeps, pre surgery here, getting nervous. But I saw a post today about someone who had gas after surgery, I understand the why and all that. But, does taking Gas X really help aleviate the gas pains? Along with walking too I know. Just wondering if any of you sleevers have tried that with success. If so, please post and I will make sure to have that on hand after surgery! Many thanks!

I found that it didnt work much - there isnt really a lot of gas in your disgestive track so the medicine can't really work.

It's been a life saver for me. I just took one as a matter of fact. The strips are the best because they dissolve in your mouth, plus it works pretty quick. I also used Gaviscon chewables immed post op. Good luck with your surgery.

GasX is a life saver...not for the general sort of gas burping that you will experience but for those moments..and you will have them...when you eat one small bite too much.  Before I tried the GasX I had a few experiences in which i suffered great pain for almost an hour after eating too fast or just a bite too much or something that just didn't sit well.  Once I tried the GasX, I learned to carry some with me everywhere I went.,,just in case. Learning what to eat, how much to chew and how slow to eat takes time and it is great to have a little chewable tablet to help when you make a mistake. It is worth the cost even if you only use it occasionally.

Gas-X works well for air that is trapped in your digestive system.  Sometimes when you are sipping, you swallow some air and it is uncomfortable, so the Gas-X helps a bit with that.

As far as the gas that they insufflate (blow up) your abdomen with in order to visualize your organs and perform surgery, which is what most people complain about after surgery, it doesn't work.  The gas that is trapped in your abdomen rises up and pushes against your diaphragm, which causes pain in your shoulders and upper back, especially your left shoulder.  The only thing that helps with this is time and walking.  It just has to reabsorb into your body.

What others said -- doesn't really work for the gas inside you after they inflate for surgery, but definitely helps with gas related to eating/drinking. I find that 2 of the strips alleviates things almost immediately.

My surgeon says because of the type of gas it is that gas x really doesn't help, gas x is really to stop the gas but they want you to relieve it so you feel better. My sister just had RNY and her surgeon is my surgeon too and he advised her not to use it as did the nurses because it wouldn't help. To those that it has helped that is great but after talking with my surgeon i won't be using it after mine.

Didn't do one bit of good for me.  The only thing that helped my pain was my "Happy Juice" (Lortabe elixer).  That was my lifesaver!

They are right its a diff kinda gas. BUT GET THE GAS X for afterwards. I know im about to get some more cause the gas u get after u advance your diet is RIDICULOUS and painful.,  Eat something that doessnt sit well and u will pay dearly. its nice to have something to alleviate those pressuring gas attacks. :)

NO  the thin strips stink!  Walking and deep knee bends work much better!  Maybe the chewables work better.
