Just wondering if anyone knows if I should buy a medical alert bracelet if I've had VSG?

My husband is thinking about getting me one, just in case of emergencies, my doctor says no serious steroid treatments or strong NSAIDS so a medic-alert bracelet isn't a bad idea

I had to get one after I got blood clots after surgery.  People need to know I'm on a blood thinner.  I figure I can add that info to it.  Better safe than sorry.

There is absolutely NO reason to have a medic Alert Bracelet after hainvg a sleeve done.

You CAN take strong NSAIDS (I take prescription 800mg Motrin, 3 times every day and have since I left the hospital after surgery).  I don't know where some of these doc's get these crazy ideas from!

You can also take steroids without any problem.

That's one of the reasons why they developed the sleeve as a weight loss surgery, so you COULD tak any prescribed medication.

Tell your doctor to check with the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville about medication useage.  I happen to be one of their patiebnts, and they have allowed me to take the PRESCRIPTION Motrin all along.  I have also been on Medrol Dose Packs (VERY strong steroids).

The only reason I can think of is. use extreme caution during gastric tubing. due to the size of our stomach my Dr gave me a card that says NO GASTRIC TUBING FOR 6 WEEKS AND USE EXTREAME CAUTION AFTER.

I'm Still a work in progress, I wont give up the quest to reclaim my life, I will be whole again someday!

I thought about getting one, but a EMT paramedic responsed to my post and said not to get one. THey said that if you get into an accident, it is better to have something written on either your drivers license or your insurance card.

So, I put information on both. I have my name, my husband's name, and both our phone numbers, and I have my doctor's name and number and hospital and that I had the Gastric SLeeve surgery.  I have it on the back of my ins. and my DL.

They EMT, said that they will look for that information.

What if you are in a bad enough wreck that your items get scattered?  Seems to me it is quicker for them to glance at your wrist then scramble around in your purse, if they can find it.  I have both a card and a bracelet...that is a strange thing for an EMT to say, IMO.  I have never heard of and EMT advising someone not to get a medical alert bracelet.  I have some family in the medical field, I am going to ask around.  Obviously, you will do what works for you of course, but that just seems odd to me.

My doctor's instructions are that I have to get a medic alert to advise of the surgery and NO nasogastric tubing.  If they do one on you it can puncture your pouch.
